Our second big test of the season.

I've seen a lot of stuff over the last few days about the number of games we've played and how few goals we've conceded. I'm delighted with our start to the season but, lets face it, we lost our first big test of the season. Here's our chance to rectify that.

    I don't think there will be any big surprises;

    Lloris

    Walker - Dawson - Vertonghen - Naughton

    Dembele - Paulinho

    Townsend - Eriksen - Siggy

    Soldado

I'm assuming Rose is still unfit, so I've gone for Naughton at the back.
I've thrown Dembele in there, but I have a sneaking suspicion Sandro might get the call, due to Chelsea's obvious attacking threat.
Finally, I don't think it will be long before we start seeing Lamela starting ahead of Townsend, but I think Lamela still needs time to settle.

My main worry for this match is the two full-back positions. Walker is a good defender and all, but he can be found wanting when we play 'world class' attacking players such as Mata and Hazard. Here's hoping he can keep his head this year.

    Thoughts?

Agree on the full backs , hence i think sandro should start as chelsea have a very strong midfield and we will need someone to break up the play.

However i think the team will be as above

p.s. I also think we will win this game 2-0

Anyone think Mourinho may play for a safe draw like he did against Utd giving us the chance to attack them and see what happens

Who would you leave out if Sandro started, dembele ? Any word on Rose ?

Yeah, I'd have to leave Dembele out. Paulinho has a better engine and can get up to support a counter-attack better.

As Mickman said, Sandro would be thrown in there as a stopper. He'd hold and support the full-backs, while Paulinho would be box-to-box.

Physioroom.com says he's back available tomorrow. Though will AVB throw him straight back in?

I went to this fixture last season. I don't know what was more devastating:
    • Hearing Bale was being rested for parental reasons
    • Reading Huddlestone's name in the starting line-up
    • Witnessing Walkers brain-farts, or
    • Enduring the scums fans chanting "Andre, whats the score?"
Made for a very gloomy flight home:(

That said, the difference this season is that anyone of Dub Perryman's line up could be replaced if they had to be. Our strength in depth is phenomenal. It appears not everybody is convinced by Mourinho's start and let's hope we heap even more pressure "the smug one"

"I would love it if we beat them!":D

Nope. They'll come to roll us over. So far we've overpowered teams totally in midfield but have been out finessed by our only real test so far, Arsenal. This is the team I'd like to see:

    Lloris

    Walker - Kaboul - Vertonghen - Rose

    Dembele - Paulinho

    Lamela - Eriksen - Siggy

    Soldado

Have we ever had a pairing of Kaboul & Vertz? Also as we know Rose may not feature. Sturdy at the back and middle and creativity in the final third.

I don't think Kaboul is ready or match-fit enough for a big game such as Chelsea. Dawson did very well in every game this season, bar the Arsenal match.

Holtby could be pushing Siggy very hard for a place, following his performances in the last couple of weeks.

I think Townsend and Siggy will start, but if they don't get straight out of the blocks and have an influence on the game then they could both be replaced by Lamela and Holtby............... and could lose their starting places going forward.

Lamela has a touch of class about him. Against Villa the other night only about 60% of what he was trying was coming off, but you can tell that when he settles and things start to click, he will be brilliant. He reminded me a bit of Van Persie when he first signed for 'that lot down the road'. Van Persie was 21 when he signed for the Goons.

    Just looked it up there

RVP had played 61 games for Feyenoord and scored 15 goals before moving to Arsenal at 21.

Lamela had played 62 games for Roma and scored 19 goals before moving to WHL at 21.

Eerie.... oh, and we've got the better player!! :D:D

And The Europa league game, the lads a liability. The sooner he is phased out of the first team the better.

That's if Chiriches lives up to the hype, his debut was very shakey. Kaboul and Verts should be our CB's, but Kaboul isn't up to speed yet so Daws is no 3

Wow, i just completely forgot about Capoue, our squad is massive . :p

Indeed. Before he got injured , capoue looked our best signing

Rose looks like he's going to play, both full backs will need plenty of protection. Pity Lennon isn't fit as he normally has a good game against Cole.

Wouldn't expect Defoe to start, if required he's in scintillating form. A wealth of talent on the bench. Wouldn't be surprised if Mata starts. Hopefully Jose still has the hump with him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

Fancy Lamela to start, he's had a home and away game now so he should be good to go. Let him tear Ashley Cole a new one. The unpredictability of Lamela will worry Chelsea, I think they would contain Townsend pretty easily. Plus I wanna see Lamela and Soldado playing together, no language barrier.

Sky trying there best to stir up shít ahead of the game.

Yeah, I noticed that too, AVB came straight out and said "I don't care about Chelsea"

Doubt Lamela will play lads, I'd say it'll be Townsend and Lamela to play about 20 mins or so depending on how things are going.

Mourinho is a crafty old bugger.
He'll set the team out to play tight and stop us playing as usual and they'll nick the 3 points with a Lampard goal in the 81st minute or something like that.

It'll be Townsend, which means shooting from everywhere and unfortunately means Soldado will probably be pretty ineffective as he won't get much service. We've seen what Defoe can do with good service from Holtby and I think that's exactly what Soldado needs. I think we'll see the usual team with Siggy, Eriksen and Townsend behind Soldado, and maybe Sandro and Paulinho in the middle.

I'd love to see Sandro play as he's really really impressed me of late, though I guess the fact he played a full match on Tuesday means he'll be on the bench.

Wouldn't it be amazing if we won! It'd put the ****s up the rest of the league, that's for sure. To go through 6 matches, playing both Arsenal and Chelsea and to win 5 would be immense.

Yeah, I must admit I get a bit excited at the prospect but as someone else pointed out in the 'we could do it this year' thread - probably no harm we stay slightly under the radar for the moment, so in that sense a draw would be a great result too.

I think we will win in a similar fashion to the Man City game last season at WHL.
Im probably biased, but i feel our lads are more in it together more so than Chelsea lads.

I was watching the celebrations for the cup and when Spurs scored the team seemed genuinely happy for each other, it was the same for Man City, for Chelsea it seemed more like they were going through the motions. Might not mean much though but it sort of backs up your statement.

I think Lamela is ready and he's a far superior player to Townsend. Having started a home and away game now I fancy AVB to put him in. Very unpredictable too which will be a cause for doubt in Chelsea's defence. Cole would have Townsend in his pocket. Play the boy Andre!

Spurs to win, Lamela to score 7/1.

Aye,trying to stir up an imaginary feud between AVB and Jose.

The joys of a forum :D

I'd play Townsend, don't think Lamela is ready to start such a big game, remember the 2 games he started where against crap sides, Tromso and Villa reserves. Townsend will work harder and put in a better shift which will be required for the first hour, let's see where we are then and introduce the boy if needed. COYS

We'll sing what we want, we'll sing what we want, we're Tottenham Hotspur we'll sing what we want.

I really really dislike this lot, beating them means so much. Come on you lillywhites!!!!!!!

    Indeed!

You're logic is flawed though mate, Townsend's best performance was against Dinamo Tblisi:eek: Lamela offers more.

All that said, isn't it great to have such a strong squad where we could have players like Dembele, Lamela, Holtby & Defoe on the bench. Incredible times.

    Tactics are needed today

Not sure if siggy will start cos he cuts in so much he will be coming into a congested midfield . Maybe Chadli will start
