Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Given Croly's tepid surrender and submission to Limerick on Tuesday by changing his team with an eye on the FAI Cup, Drogheda and Bray would be good bets for points

Come on the town tonight, beat Waterford and we are up!!

Our record against Derry has been awful the last few years, but we have to believe we can get something out of it. Their form before the Bray game wasn't great so might give us some encouragement after a big win last week. Hopefully Sligo can put Shels away, Bray losing last night was a nice boost.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Not sure I can contain my excitement ahead of tonights game with UCD.

This season has completely petered out for us at this stage. We aint going down, but unlikely we will finish much higher than we are. We can have a big say in both the relegation issue and the title issue though with us having to play Sligo, Shell's, Dundalk and SPA after tonight.

We'll be smashed tonight, so many players out and so bad atm!

I don't have a good feeling either, but maybe we get a consolation goal...because Sligo will feel pity with us and score an OG in injury time

Hate playing Derry. We've a horrible record against them. At home so hopefully the atmosphere continues where it left off from last week. Would be happy with a point.

Should be a decent game if nothing else. UCD like to keep the ball on the ground and judging by Cork's performance against the Drogs the other night your lot are playing some good stuff lately.

Two games in three days for us with Limerick and Derry City coming to Dundalk. Derry on Monday night is made easier by the fact they have to travel to Dublin this evening for what should be a tough match against Bohs. Fancy us beating Limerick this evening. Lose either match and it is truly game over as far as the league is concerned.

I was 11 going on 12 years old when Athlone Town were relegated from the Top Flight, after 17 years of watching us finish mid to bottom table with the odd decent year and the one great almost year when Buckley got us close, I can feel it in my bones that tonight is the night that Athlone secure promotion back where we belong.
St. Mel's might be gone but the memories aren't and this club has w big history to live up to and the players and staff this year have done the club and the supporters proud.

    Hon the fecking Town!

Oh, and I expect the First Division attendance record to be broken tonight.

I think them and Longford have always been our biggest bogey teams. Moving level/above UCD tonight would be a fantastic achivement, 9th place seemed miles away before our game against Rovers.

The current record is less than 2k AFAIK, I'd expect a full house in Lissywollen tonight.

I'd almost prefer for McDonnell to stick out a 2nd string side tonight, focusing on the winnable game on Monday.

I'm guessing you're talking about smashing the first division record attendance for just this season? There's been plenty of games which have broken the 2000 barrier in previous seasons. Dundalk V Shamrock Rovers back in 2006 actually broke the 3000 mark.

Over 2,000 at Shels and Limerick on that faithful night...

Cant make the Drogs game tonight, anyone know if Rovers do commentary for their games? Or were I'd find it?

The dream is over. Awful performance from Dundalk this evening. Never got going. Limerick deserved to win albeit they are an awful cynical team. Feigning injury and time wasting for the whole second half. It's all about the cup for us now.

Do you think, the turning point was loosing to St.Pats?

Tbf Bohs were much the better side tonight. Derry had nothing about them, bar that curly headed chap.

Really pleased with how we played, hopefully we will keep this up now.

Another 3 gigantic points for Bohs. What a run. 8 points clear. Need to keep driving on. A point against Limerick on Monday should see us safe from the automatic spot anyway. Hopefully Bray can pick up and and secure the play off spot at least.

    Humbug! Humbuggery I say!

9 points clear etc but I do know a lot of sound Athlone lads who deserve something after all the years.... we get to look over our shoulder to see Maervue sitting there 1 point behind... OH MERCY!

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 23,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭GLaDOS

    Congrats Athlone!

Great 3 points for us and once again the teams around us lose. Derry were really poor though. Once we don't lose our concentration we should be able to see ourselves safe. Hoping we'll be safe before the Bray game cause I'm going to a gig :o.

Fantastic performance by Bohs against Derry with a super second goal by Ryan McEvoy, well worth a look on MNS on Monday night. Bohs fans followed their superb support down in Tolka with good vocal support again this evening with their unique version of Spandau Ballet's "Always believing" getting a good airing. Neil Yadolahi Bohs new young signing from Bursaspor made a solid debut at centre half covering for the injured Anto Murphy..
Welcome back to Athlone Town and Roddy Collins to the Premier Division of the Airtricity League, looking forward to a trip to Lisseywollen next year.

Not a surprise to hear from the Bohs fans that we were pants, again.

We have really gone to the dogs since the mid-season break. We are a sinking ship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 333 ✭✭Alfa Quadrifoglio

Combination of Derry below par and Bohs playing with new found confidence. City in danger of being overhauled by Rovers for 4th place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,064 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Rovers have a great chance of catching us tbh.

It started well before the 2nd half.Ryan(Lim GK) was time wasting from just after Lims took the lead(17 mins i believe ).Gaffneys 2nd goal was 3 miles off side and the whole shambles with the Shields yellow card was a sight to behold! That guy Nzuzi should get an Oscar for all the acting the pri*k done tonight.

    Anyway.

BTW well done and congrats to Athlone Town on winning the 1st division title tonight.See yee next year lads/lasses.
