Great buzz down in lissywoolen tonight, 2000 there and you could just feel the excitement this team has brought... it's great to be back in the top flight, its a far cry from two years back when Brendan Place was manager, we were hopeless and there'd be less than 300 every week...good times are back hopefully, we waited fecking long enough! :D

congrats athlone, good few years now in lower D1 so its great to see a team rise up from the doldrums (i need this reassurance dont take it away!). Plenty of long suffering fans savouring tonight i bet!

(edit-just seen on our forum, 17 years since ye were last in the top flight! definitely long suffering!)
we get to look over our shoulder to see Maervue sitting there 1 point behind... OH MERCY!
can you imagine if the one galway team comes into force next year and mervue get promoted.... now that would be interesting!

nice win again tonight..on a roll.

Good first half. Awful second half. Shels are really really poor.

Congrats Athlone. Looking forward to a relatively short trip next year.

Drogheda like blasting the ball over the bar from point blank range.

Game was drifting by as a pre-season game, Croly not making any changes, at least when Quigley came on, he created something.

The current record is less than 2k AFAIK, I'd expect a full house in Lissywollen tonight.

We had 4000 in the 1st division against Waterford for the 1st game as FORAS. And had 3000+ a good few times.

Anyway, congrats Athlone. Nice to see a new team in the premier. Still no love for Roddy mind!!

yea we would have had something similar towards the end 04 & 07. definitely much higher than 2000

edit yep 5000 when we picked up the D1 title in 04

    Crunch game tonight for us.

Drogheda missing a few through suspension and hopefully will have one eye on Sunday's semi-final.

We've players returning from injury/suspension as well, so hopefully at the very least a draw.

Another defeat and it's looking like curtains. :(

This is the biggest game of the season tonight. Lose and we are done.

If we win and Bray lose, we're safe from automatic relegation mathematically. In the form we're in, it just might happen.

There's a good little crowd here from us, maybe 150-200. One of our boys is down with what looks like a serious head injury. Ambulance stretcher is on and all, game halted for 5 mins here. Looks bad.

Shane Murray gone off with the head injury. Hope he's ok.

20 yard shot from Dennehy turning in from the right, spilt by the Bray keeper, tap in for Quigley. Low attendance in Tallaght.

Praying Drogheda can get at least a draw. If not, I'd expect Shels to be above us on goal difference by Friday evening with Derry just going through the motions.
Players seem to have thought they were safe but could be in a playoff spot by the end of the week.

    Edit: 2-2!

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 23,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭GLaDOS

Drogs make it 2-2. Shels bottling it it would appear...

Would bite your arm off for a draw in Limerick right now.

Richie Towell cementing his player of the year award with a glorious hatrick. Back in second thanks to Cork holding Sligo to a draw.

Can't figure out how we've become so **** so quickly.

We can wrap up our season nicely by ****ing up on Sunday too.

Only watching MNS now, probably our goal of the season in McEvoy's second against Derry. They somehow managed to miss it.

    Decent result tonight.

Who was the 1fan who made it to Sligo?

    Fair play to him.

Don't think you're lot will do it. They'll draw against UCD and Sligo, beat Derry and then lose their final game to Cork. Meanwhile Dundalk will win their three remaining games to pinch the title. Sorry about that.

It wasn't Cork Tom anyway! He was in Oriel Park this evening.

If Paul McLoughlin is the ref for any more of our matches we're doomed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

    ****ing joke,

Still don't know what their penalty was given for. Free kick into our box cleared by the first man, and he gives a pen for something behind it.

Second goal, BLATANT handball by O'Brien to control the ball in the lead up to it.

But look, a point takes us off bottom, so it's a crucial point at least. Can hopefully pick up another point away to Derry on Fri.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Bray continue to look like a side who know they're doomed, Waters aside.

Could really do with a Shels win in Derry..

Grabbed a chat & a photo with the living legend at half-time! :P

Dundalk won fairly handy in the end despite a quite nervous start.

Derry's Rafter was in on goal early,he looked to be be tripped by Dundalk keeper Cherrie, ref Graham Kelly blows up & books Rafter for a dive!! Could have went the other way-Pen for Derry,Cherrie sent off!!
After that it was a Towell masterclass and Chris Shields played his part too.Towell got the match ball and MOTM but for me Shields was KING!

Yet again i have to complain about the standards of reffing in the leauge.Kelly was terrible tonight, but at least he was terrible for both sides.

Dundalk go second, and we get some wee belief here that we can still win this LOI :)

European football guaranteed for DundalkFC next year.Well done to all at the club.Huge achievment.

You could really do with a Shels win in Derry?

We've scored 7 goals away from home in 14 league games this season so don't bet on it. :(

We played a lot better last night with players returning from injury against a depleted Drogheda side and were quite fortunate to get a draw.

If Bray can keep up their current run, it may be enough.

    For a play-off versus..???

I wouldn't complain about an away win, but matches involving Shels seem to have their own rules these days

Catching up on MNS. Arguably Bohs' best goal of the season and the camera's didn't capture it. Pathetic.

Its pathetic that there is only ever one camera. Never get to see another angle of anything on that show.

Hardly MNS's fault that RTE can't afford to give them a decent budget. Personally I think it's a decent highlights programme and I'm just glad that they haven't completely ignored the league. Can't remember them ever missing a goal before either so one mistake can be forgiven.

No.The FAI have an agreement with RTE.Simple law-You show LOI for 5 years LOI VIA MNS you get Ireland intenational coverage FOR 5 YEARS.
Thats coming to an end end of 2013.
MNS has been a huge succsessfor RTE SPORT.Maybe i'm biased because i'm a fan of LOI & MNS but i reckon it has been good for the leauge.

Pat's need to drop points in three of their last four matches. Not going to happen.
Pat's have been the best team over the course of the season so they fully deserve the title in my opinion.
