Hope Finn Balor wears his body paint

Chances are that Finn is a reference to Finn McCool/Fionn Mac Cumhaill. I shouldn't need to explain who that is in Irish Mythology.

    Michelle's long lost brother.:P

I can't see Finn Balor selling many t-shirts to be honest.

Balor is also meant to mean 'god of drought or blight'

Great. He may as well be called Finn Famine

I would have preferred for him to keep his own name but I actually quite like this. If he's allowed to use the body paint it will fit quite well with the mythology behind the name and they can paint him into a demon of sorts.

Mankind was originally to be called Mankind the Mutilator..

Think it was actually Mason the Mutilator.

How do you pronounce Balor?

'Bah-lurr' or 'Bay-lore' or something else?

'Bway-lore' I think. Doesn't it stem from the Irish word for mortal peril or something?

Which is a risky bloody name to use once you factor in Cole and Layfield's weekly butchering of the word 'bodhrán'

The creative squad of that time were somewhat notorious for their rotten names. Austin's bi-annual rants on them suggesting 'Icepick McDagger' are still gold.

Granted, at least they were willing to somewhat gimmick the names; the NXT name generator farts out the most pedestrian ones going. Last gimmick name I recall is Ryback, and even that's just a contraction of his actual name and silverback.

I didn't like the name Sami Zayn more than El Generico.

I didn't like the name Adrian Neville more than PAC.

I didn't like the name Solomon Crowe more than Sami Calihan.

Hell, The Beatles is a god awful name. Dolph Ziggler is a terrible name.

In 5 years time, provided he gets a fair shot. His name won't mean a thing.

From talking to different guys, they are told to come up with a name almost everytime, so everybody jumps to the impression that they were forced to take this name when most likely Devitt himself came up with it.

MitchKoobski's post (if it is more than a coincidence) almost proves that. I doubt WWE looked into it that much. That'd be Devitt's doing.

The yanks will have the name spelt as phonetically as possible!

I like the Balor but I don't feel like the Finn really goes with it.

Do you think fans will chant Balor though? Sounds too heelish/taunting like when fans would drone "Irwin" at IRS or Homer giving Daryl Strawberry grief:

If they chant it like they used to chant Goldberg; Baaaaa - Lorrrrrrr, that could work! :D

Ah, a good Donegal name. I like it already. :)

We have the Balor Theatre (okay it's now known as the Balor Arts Centre) up here in Ballybofey. Ballybofey is built on the River Finn. so the whole area is known as the Finn Valley.

Forget Meltzer. I'm going straight to the Finn Valley Voice. We'll claim him as one of our own.

For some reason Balor sounds like something I would expect to hear from a character (is there one similar) in Game of Thrones. Maybe that is the idea as that would resonate with Americans atm and it seems Irish too especially with Finn before it which ive no doubt comes from Finn Mac Cumhaill which i'd hope the WWE would reference in some way (im sure on commentary in NXT they will atleast)

Balor is actually alright by current WWE standards. It's growing on me. Finn Balor is not!

If it's not pronounced Baylor/Baylore I will be amazed!!

They talk about being more reality based yet give everybody a name that's about as random and far from reality as you can possibly get!!

I can recall a few interviews where wrestlers said the submitted or contributed to their own names. Daniel Bryan, Ziggler, McInyre off the top of my head.

A culchie gimmick might be just what WWE needs. Sheamo could never get us whesties onside anyways.
