    He's good

All Time: Billy Connolly, just a brilliant story teller, and love the way he even trails off, all his old performances are gold. Seen him this year for the first time in Cork Opera House back in May, he was class. Also was gutted to hear he wasn't well the last while. Hope he has a few more years and many performances ahead.

Current: I have so many, I do love Rich Hall, Ed Byrne, Andrew Maxwell at the moment. Seen them at Fringe in Edinburgh during the summer. Will be going again!

Unoriginal I know but I still love Mitch Hedbergs style and delivery.

Frankie Boyle, Dave Chapelle & Russell Brand are some of my favourites but the funniest two people of all time are Vic and Bob.

I love Daire O Brian, Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr.

I don't see any semblance to Louis CK there. He's missing the rage, the eternal despair, the hatred for mankind; everything that makes Louis magic. That guy Jeff was simply awful, I had to turn it off halfway through.

They both tell a joke thats very similar about Cinnabons so maybe thats where I saw the familiarity. To be fair that McDonalds story isnt his best, it was merely the first one I found on youtube.

He's nowhere even close in my "all time best" list but it is good to find a new talent to watch

Jerry Seinfeld. May not be edgy, but every joke is brilliantly written and delivered.

Those Occupy protesters. Biggest clowns ever. Don't let the protesting get in the way of collecting your welfare payments, lads.

Current would be Steve Hughes and Doug Stanhope.

All time, probably Hicks. He was more than just a comedian. Sometimes I get really bummed out when I'm reminded of what a great person the world lost.
Steve hughes could well be one of the worlds best right now...absolute genius.

Yeah fook Frankie Boyle to be honest. I know I know all this "either its all funny or none of it is" response that I hear so often. Well that is bullsh1t imo, and people like to say it like its gospel, it aint . I find a bit of vulgarity funny, but I just dont like certain topics, well 1 topic in particular, he used to get his shock laughs and I think he's a pr1ck for doing it. Just my opinion
went to see both Frankie Boyle and Steve Hughes this year with the same mate (casual comedy fan), and after steve hughes he stated that the Hughes gig was a different league of brilliance!

Came across this last night, just when I thought Id watched all of Louie's shows on Youtube

Its audio only but still classic Louie.

Any other decent new uploads of standups on YouTube?

    Dylan Moran

    Larry the cable guy!

    Dara O Briain, George Carlin
    Bill Burr, Dylan Moran

My all time Favourite would be Dara simply because he introduced to me to comedy and he's THE master of improvisation and conversation and creating something from nothing. He's also incredibly joyful, sharp, insightful about, always gauging, without pandering to a crowd.

Getting big into Doug Stanhope recently.

Great bit from the perspective of a hooker in an economic downturn.

And 3 of his 4 DVDs are on Youtube in full ;)

Agreed. He is amazing, particularly with improv

    No Robin Williams!

I'd put him third, after Pryor and Connolly.

Even if you just watch all his interviews on chat shows from the 80's onwards, doing that alone would mean you'd see a few hours of the best stand up material (most of it ad-libbed). Most people are incessant bores when on cocaine, I think Robin Williams is the one exception to that rule :P

Looks like we may see a Mrs Doubtfire II in the not too distant future also.

Louies 3rd season of his sitcom is coming out at the moment, saw episodes 1 and 2 last week, think 3 and 4 are on this week. Its either on Fox here I think or you would have to be bold and shout really loudly at your computer to letmewatchthis!!!

He had a special out sorta recently too that I watched on SkyGo, it was new material (to me) at the time anyway.

Bill Burr would be the current one for me. Love his podcast, and the show in Vicar Street before Christmas was brilliant.

    Others would be..

    Rhod Gilbert
    Louis CK
    Rich Hall
    Billy Connolly
    Tommy Tiernan
    Ardal O'Hanlon
    Dave Gorman

Really don't like comedians whose main gimmick is music, Tim Minchin and David O'Doherty being the main culprits.

Also one overlooked legacy of the boom is how many sh*t comedians this country churned out during that time...again David O'Doherty, Ed Byrne, PJ Gallagher, Maeve Higgins, Karl Spain.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,516 ✭✭✭wazky

    Alan Carr

Is he really classing himself as a comedian?, about as funny as a spoon in the eye.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,071 ✭✭✭✭wp_rathead

Two of my fav American comedians currently are Hannibal Buress and Bo Burnham..

My all time favs are Tim Minchin, Stewart Lee, John Oliver, Dylan Moran and Bill Hicks

+1 on this, his material is so good and delivered at such a pace that rewatching videos you'd often pick up gags you didnt quite catch the first time as you were still laughing at the previous one.

Similarly comedians on twitter are spreading themselves too thin and whilst it's obvious people can't be funny 24/7 it doesn't stop some comedians from trying, again O'Doherty is a prime example of that as indeed is Frankie Boyle for every retweet you see from his account he has a dozen lame faux controversial statements that you just groan at.

have to say he came up with a cracker during Glastonbury there last time the stones played..."moves like jagger is now something a careworker would write on a physiotherapy report"

I would be a big fan of Dara O'Brien and Adam Buxton.

Massive Stewart Lee and Doug Stanhope fan.Saw Bill Burr a few months back too and he was surprisingly good live.

Love Louis C.K.'s sitcom, but not a huge fan of his stand up at all.

Irish comedian wise I like Dave Allen and Dylan Moran.
