Na Fianna beat Wolfe Tones in the Meath SFC semi final on Friday by 2-19 to 1-12. Daniel Queeney (Jamie's younger brother) was the star with 1-6 with ex League of Ireland player Shane Barrett getting 1-4. Remarkable achievement by the Enfield/Baconstown amalgamation having only won the Intermediate championship last season.
They'll play the winners from two seasons ago Summerhill who beat Rathkenny by 15 points to 1-7.

In the Intermediate championship, Graham Geraghty showed he's still got it by getting a goal in extra time to send Clann na nGael to the final.

Yes, played all but last 5 mins - scored 3 points too. In his first championship game back last week he had the ball in the net after less than 5 minutes.

Was at his first game back (in the league) and he got a few friendly welcome home challenges!!!

Personally I can't see him ever wearing the Cavan jersey again - while he has a lot of friends around the panel, it would split the panel in two. Throw in the fact that the gaels are loathed by other teams in the county for various reasons and have nurtured an "everyone hates us" mentally, it was always going to be easy to go back to the Gaels but virtually impossible to rejoin the county panel.

This years county championships are entering the final stages. Performance of the day came from John Heslin who scored 2-16 as St Lomans beat Garrycastle by a point in Westmeath.
    Kerry SFC Quarter Finals
FEALE RANGERS NEEDED extra time to beat St Brendan’s in the first of today’s Kerry senior football quarter finals in Austin Stack Park.
The sides had finished normal time level after Rangers let a late two point lead slip. However, the three-time Kerry champions got the best possible start in extra time thanks to a goal from David Sheehy and went on to book their place in the final four on a 3-12 to 0-15 scoreline.
They’ll be joined in the final four by Austin Stacks who survived a second half comeback by St Kieran’s in the second game of the afternoon.
Leading 2-6 to 0-4 at the break, Stacks were outscored by nine points to six in the second period but still held on to book their place in the semi finals on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-10
    Kildare SFC semi final
A Dermot Early cameo helped defending champions Sarsfields into the Kildare county final this afternoon.
Naas had looked to make a game of it in the early stages but were outscored by 12 points to one in the 30 minutes either side of half time and so it was the Newbridge club that ran out 0-19 to 1-10 winners.
And it will be an all Newbridge final for the fifth time this millennium as Moorefield secured a 2-9 to 0-10 win over Athy in the second semi final.
    Leitrim SFC final
St Mary’s-Kiltoghert are celebrating their first Fenagh Cup win since 2007 after a six point win over Mohill in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada.
Michael McWeeney and Alan Doherty’s goals gave the Carrick-on-Shannon side a 2-14 to 2-08 win.
    Louth SFC Final
Newtown Blues secured their first Louth senior football title in five years thanks to a 2-15 to 0-13 win over Cooley Kickhams in Drogheda this afternoon.
Andy Mcdonnell and substitute Conor Brannigan scored the crucial goals for the Drogheda side.
    Westmeath SFC Semi-finals
Former Richmond Tigers AFL player John Heslin scored a phenomenal 2-16 of St Loman’s 2-19 total as they overcame Garrycastle in Sunday’s first Westmeath senior football semi final in Mullingar today.
It’s lucky the Westmeath star was in such sparkling form too as the Mullingar side held on for a one point victory despite Garrycastle raising the green flag five times. Final score 2-19 to 5-9.
The possibility of an all Mullingar final remains alive too as Tyrrellspass and Mullingar Shamrocks could only play out a 2-9 draw in the second semi final.
Tyrrellspass had led by 2-5 to 0-3 at half time but a stirring second half fightback from the defending champions sees them live to fight another day.
    Meath SFC semi final
Summerhill are through to play Na Fianna in the Meath senior football final after they overcame Rathkenny 0-15 to 1-7 in Páirc Tailteann this afternoon.
Donal Curtis got the goal for Rathkenny just before half time to keep them in the game but the 2011 county champions held on to book their final berth.
    Limerick SFC semi final
Monaleen will be aiming for their third Limerick senior football title in four years after beating local rivals St Patrick’s in Claughaun on Sunday afternoon.
Pats had a three point lead at half time but Monaleen fought back in the second period to win by a single point, 0-15 to 0-14
    Offaly SFC semi finals
Tullamore took advantage as Clara lost their composure in the second half – finishing with 13 men – to book their final berth with a 1-10 to 0-6 win at home this afternoon. The 2007 champions were leading by four points before Adam Shelley fired home a late goal to cement the win.
In the other semi final, a Stephen Guing goal wasn’t enough for Edenderry as defending champions Rhode secured a final spot with a 0-20 to 1-10 win.
    Wicklow SFC semi finals
Rahnew and Blessington will have to do it all over again as their semi final ended in a 0-12 draw in Aughrim this afternoon.
The winners of the replay will face Baltinglass after a Joey Kelly goal helped them to a 2-8 to 0-9 win over Blessington in the second semi final.

A Daithi Waters and Ciaran Lyng inspired St.Martin's qualified for their first ever Wexford senior football final with a comfortable 0-17 to 2-6 win over Shelmaliers, who saw county star Brian Malone miss a penalty to level the score at 3-6 to 0-15 a minute after scoring one.

The first semi-final saw Fethard, this season's surprise packets, defeat Sarsfields by 3-7 to 0-9, to qualify for their first senior final since 1998.

It's a novel pairing down for decision on October 27th and rather interstingly the last time the two sides met in the championship, was in a relegation final a few years ago, which Fethard won.

Crokes have to get over Stacks first. Which they should on Sunday.

Stacks will have to be filthy to beat the Crokes as they won't win a straight shoot-out.

I wonder will the big investment made by the Stacks in Psychologists, Nutritionists, Masseuses, Physios etc pay dividends?

Crokes are a super team, but if allowed space and time on the ball like the Stacks afforded them today they will rip you apart everytime,in the semi final Kerins O'Rahilly's went out and put as many as they could behind the ball and they got criticised for it by many down here, its the only way to play the Crokes if you dont have the players to trouble them, close down the space and get numbers behind the ball.

Im sure there are teams in the other provinces that would look at that game today and will relish the chance to play the Crokes.

Watched both matches today- Crokes were immense and will be very hard to stop in Munster at least.

Stacks will get stronger-they have a young team and won the minor Div 1 this year so they will develop but the thing that some are missing is- Gooch is impossible to mark at senior county level so at club level he can run the show himself.

Solution: give Gooch to a different club every year.

The standard of the Meath final was abysmal to say the least

Crokes might come out of munster but they have floped in a few semil finals
over the last few years, again the Mun last year, i think they come out of Kerry and Munster to handy and are not able then for a tight battle.

they are a great football side and if they play to there best and keep their
eye on the ball they could make it to paddys day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

If anyone has an hour to spare, do yourself a favour and watch the County Final from Kerry yesterday.

The skill level from the Crokes was phenomenal. They made the Stacks, who are not a bad side, look terrible and they could have beaten them by whatever they wanted.

I know some people will hate watching a game like that, and say there was no challenge or no intensity, but to me that performance was just perfect. Every player from 1-15 on the Crokes got the better of their man. They went out and played free open football, and kicked some magnificent scores. Guys like Daithí Casey, the Gooch and Kieran O'Leary were on fire.

If you are a defender, you'll cringe watching the space that the Crokes lads have, but thats not by accident. Their movement was so clever, and the footpassing into space helped make the Stacks backs look incompetent.

Anyway its on the TG4 player, and you could do worse things on a dark cold Monday night.

I think what kills the Crokes when it comes to All Ireland Semi's is the break after the provincial finals, they get up a head of steam pre Xmas and then they have a break and I think they find it hard to re discover the form for an All Ireland Semi. Its probably something they have to work on for this attempt at winning an All Ireland Club

They should come out of Munster, but last year the toughest game they had was up in Clare,Kilmurry Ibrickane gave them a great game of it and were unlucky not to beat the Crokes.

I think what gets Crokes is the more physical teams.

Crokes are a classy team, but very very light. Outside of Ambrose and Brosnan they have no big men. Buckley still has a bit to go before you can call him a big man (in bulk rather then height).

So when a team like Crossmaglen and Ballymun who would be more physical meets them they struggle with the tougher style of play.

They're fancy runs are being stopped off the ball, they're forwards are being held onto, and that space through the middle that lighter teams concede is blocked up with a a heavy Centre Back.

If they have worked out how to get around that then I don't think there is a team in the country to live with their skillful forwards.
Also, they are weak in the fullback line, and a team that wins enough possession around the middle exploits that.
