A couple of observations on the Crokes v Castlehaven game:
    1) Castlehaven seemed content to keep it to a single digit defeat as they showed no willingness to attack at all
    2) You can do more or less what you like to Colm Cooper on the pitch- he was getting slaps all day
    3) Crokes wont win an All Ireland club as there are too many players on their team who are unwilling to 'mix-it'

I think Crokes will fall short again this year. That performance today certainly wouldn't be good enough to beat any of the remaining sides outside of Munster. Just my thoughts from today's game. They will come out of Munster.

Throwing a neutral eye on it.
    1. I'd say in the second half, Castlehaven just didn't have the capability to attack in waves after their exertions in the first half. Castlehaven seemed to have to work a lot harder for their scores. And once crokes got the goal the game turned into a dead rubber.
    2. Cooper had one bad foul on him, by castlehaven no.7 I think, and the he got rightly booked. The rest of it looked like the normal rough and tumble of a football game. Crokes were no angles either as there was plenty of off the ball blocking from both sides.
    3. I will have totally agree here. I think Crokes want to play total football, but if an opposing team bring the physicality to the game thatvthe haven did, and a lot more besides, sime of the Crokes player seem to shy away.

    Yeah ,in dismal weather.

They deserve immense credit for that.
Was at a club game in cork tonight, and 12 lads had won a county hurling title on sunday, they had to play football tonight. They looked flat for the ist 40 minutes,in a good ptich,on a good night for a game.

My thoughts went to whitegate. How they must have felt.

They are the true heroes win or loose of the championship so far.

Vincents beat Ballymun by a point.

didn't see the game, but I hear Connolly got a Straight red for an incident involving Philly McMahon?

EDIT: Philly off as well, must have been the same incident.

    I'm surprised.

Did Ballymun throw it away sun? Heard it, didn't see it though so open to correction

Dunno really, might have something to do with County League games on down here on the Sunday but that shouldnt really effect the Crokes game,as its only Division 2 that is left to be sorted.

    The big Tralee derby

Yeah the battle to see which of us is more likely to keep Crokes to ten points!

Always nice to win some silverware though especially if it was to be at the expense of the Rock!

What games are on TV today ?

Live coverage Corofin (Galway) and Castlebar Mitchels (Mayo).
Deferred coverage Na Piarsaigh (Limerick) and Passage (Waterford)

Corofin v Castlebar is an awful game so far.

    Conditions ruining the game!

    1 point each.

Pitch is shíte, ball isn't hopping at all.

Not good enough at this level. Is it on in Tuam? Surely a better pitch in the area!

EDIT: 1-1 to 0-1 for Corofin. Corofin dominating.

Poor game alright.yes in tuam.was that a goal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

    Castlebar woke up finally.

1-4 to 1-2 now to Corofin, but it looked like it would be a hammering for a while.

EDIT: Sounds like there is a big wind in Corofins favour, Castlebar are stuggling to get out of their own half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

    Goal Castlebar!

Great run from Newcombe, mis-hit shot and back to the forward who stuck it in the net.

Tough on Corofin who have been the better side, but its turning into an exciting game, now that both sides know not to hop the ball.

    2-2 to 1-4

Castlebar really stepped up in last 15. Hopefully they can push on!

I suspect Brigid's will be the happier team at half time though ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 868 ✭✭✭Gerry91

Yeah will they ever stop hopping the bloody ball. Eoghan O'Reilly I'm looking at you in particular :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Was going to say the referee is riding Castlebar, but taking a step back from things he seems terrible for both sides, its just that Castlebar finished the half with more possession so they are getting penalised more.

Have Castlebar backed so obviously I'm going to be biased, but he really isn't helping things.

Some nice performances from some of the lesser known Castlebar lads.

Garry Sice looks the best player on the field for Corofin, and O'Donaghue is always capable of opneing things up.

This would be a real good game on a proper pitch, but the fact that they can't hop the ball is killing the game, and leading to mistakes that make County players look like Junior B's. Its frustrating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭Boom__Boom

    Strange game.

Castlebar v slow to start but then when to a position of totally dominating.

Conditions making things hard on both sides - pitch seems to be a combination of boggy and slippy.

Didnt think much of the Corofin keeper - came way off his line to leave a tap in for the first goal and didnt exactly cover himself in glory for the second either.

Corofin's were very poor at getting the ball out of their own defensive third with lots of over-elaboration.

He's blown for a few things you would normally expect a ref to let go on a November pitch - stuff like steps and some of the tackling but overall I don't think he has impacted the scoreboard much for either side.

He made a few good shouts especially when Sice fell over going through and gave free out

He seemed to over rule first point did he really have that good an angle? Granted it looked wide on initial viewing but hard to call.

He seems to be harsh on the steps rule

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Yeah, more frustrating then game impacting.

Like blowing up for an off the ball check, but then not giving a yellow card for it.

Or forwards being pulled down and being blow for steps!

In fairness you won't get much of a hop on any pitch this time of year in those conditions and the Tuam pitch is usually one of the best in Galway.

A good enjoyable game, Corofin have a weakness at the back we could have upset.

My favourite was the Corofin player who hopped it twice in one passage of play (solo'ed in between) bringing it out of defence.

It's one of the disappointments with the club championship in that so many of the games end up being played in poor conditions due to the schedule.

Paddy is a sticky ref but he is generally right in his calls. Got a shout from linesman on 1st shot and overruled umpires correctly. Also correctly called Sice on his dive

Defending well Castlebar. Forwards look to have more about them compared to Corofin too

Wow, lucky from Castlebar, ball cleared off the line.

2-8 to 1-8 with 8 mins to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,384 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Ref in the Corofin v Castlebar game has made loads of little errors. Nothing major just constant poor decisions. Gave a free against Sice for diving in the first half and then literally one minute later gave a free in to Castlebar after the lad clearly slipped and fell over while trying to turn. Gave a free against Corofin for O'Donovan picking the ball when it clearly hopped up off the ground into his hands but he's completely ignored some straight pick ups off the ground. Just horribly inconsistent. Granted reffing when pitches are sticky in the winter is not the easiest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

    Awful descision!

Corofin forward touched it twice on the ground, and the referee gives a free in for touching it on the ground!
