If the larger circle is a DME arc based off the SHA VOR. What's the smaller inner arc based off, the OL NDB?

    Very interesting.

Apparently high altitude balloons belonging to Google for Project Loon

  • Registered Users Posts: 121 ✭✭frankiebaby

These are Google Balloons for Project Loon.
You'll notice the speeds are very low - 12kt's and 13k's for the 2 linked above.
Callsigns HBAL and HIBAL apparently used by these Google balloons.
    Interesting

Hey guys. Was just checking out Brazilian airspace and clicked on a flight from central Brazil to Guarulhos in SP. Why would a plane do such a thing as this at cruising altitude?

A flight i was on in December did a 360 just before descending into the same airport, but not as funky as this here:

Most likely for spacing so aircraft arrive staggered into the destination airport and not all at once.

What's with the holding at NOC?

  • Registered Users Posts: 686 ✭✭✭DieselPowered

Wow ! un identified traffic just caused ALL approaches to be cancelled into Dublin, he is somewhere in the zone and flying close to the localiser, all traffic being sent to the HOLD..someone is going to get their hand slapped for this.

Edit: He is south of the localiser for Rwy 10 and in the zone.
Edit: Military Heli 271 is in the air and has been asked by ATC to check for the aircraft, he is currently routing north from Bal towards the airport
Edit: for Liveatc playback check around 12:20 IST (11:20 GMT)
Edit: Military cleared the airspace, no sign of any aircraft, approaches are resuming

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,179 ✭✭✭✭fr336

no...highlighting that its very unusual to see an A330 break off the approach

Jeez, Dublin airspace is the busiest I've seen it, as a result.

    Also, A380 over Drogheda - 12:37.

What's the story with the 2 Air Transat A330's due into Shannon from Dublin?

Who is showing up as "Blocked", just passing over Birr? A bit ahead of US 729.

I can't post an image of it.

Just what you need after 10 hours flying. What an idiot. Gin clear day, no excuses for that.

    No excuse for what?

Poor navigation and not being able to read an aeronautical chart. It's a basic skill to get your licence.

He wouldn't have even needed a chart to figure out he was somewhere he shouldn't be! He was literally a couple of minutes from causing 2 aircraft at least to divert.
