Its squawking an emergency code '7700', means there is a problem on board and they are gonna land

    Very busy day today.

There was an investigation on TV recently about just that issue, and the alleged high amount of fuel emergencies called by Ryanair pilots due to having very little additional fuel....I wish I could remember the name of it

Channel 4 and aviation. What could possibly go wrong?

Think I just heard radio saying to get passengers thru customs & overnight them.

Any idea what went wrong ?

Right....So overall it looks like RYR give flip all time on the company guidelines for circling to land or in hold.

Well I was surprised as on many other occasions I've watched Ryanair holding at an airport on fr24, most were there for ages before wanting to divert and some weren't fussed at all about holding for a long while. Certainly no more than other airlines. So I'm inclined to think there were other factors today. Either way as previously mentioned a Channel 4 documentary went on about this and was found to be incorrect I believe.

I also remember seeing flights in a hold longer and found it strange today that they gave up so early and diverted to SNN after not much time at all.

Newish pilot? Must have been something. I think they do have to communicate with ops in such a situation but the final decision is with the pilots.

CASA316 is an Airbus KC-30A (A330-203MRTT) Fuel tanker,
EC-404 is an Airbus A400 on test flights from Seville, you can go onto the playback function for about 18:30 UTC in the center of the Medeteranian South of Malaga and Almeria

Not necessarily new. If they refueled in DUB carrying round trip fuel, ie from Dub to destination and back to DUB again, they may have decided to divert to SNN as they were unsure of how much longer they would remain in the hold and close to the legal safe minimums.

It's all about safety. At no point was there any danger of them "plunging" out of the sky.
