Air Canada 85 Tel Aviv-Toronto calling at Shannon for fuel for the 3rd day in a row. I assume this might be something to do with the threat of rocket attack currently on Tel Aviv Airport?

Ahh good call! So it'd be a matter of them having enough fuel to get out of Tel Aviv to Shannon, and getting out of Tel Aviv as quickly as possible? Or fuel is just tricky to Tel Aviv right now?

Have a look at the beastly winds they'll have to fly through to get to Toronto. That thing curling around the Great Lakes and then out across the Atlantic will be nasty.

Positioning into Heathrow now, looks like preparation for a contingency sub.

Titan must make a tidy profit on those last-minute substitutions but on the other hand they have to keep a crew on 24/7 stand-by.

I saw a B744 in that 'FanHansa' livery last week. I would expect LH will lay on either or for their return. Great PR opportunity....bet they didn't like the Emirates crew behind the German team as they accepted the trophy... ;)

I dont think id be happy either, they re-fitted that particular A340-600 for the team, managers, coaches and so on, new business classes and so on and then Emirates steal their thunder upon lifting the trophy, nasty.

Don't think the average person would have any idea they were Emirates flight crew, just some fit birds in cream suits and a red hat

I don't think Lufthansa are the slightest bit bothered. I think any sports follower has accepted now that Emirates seem to have their hand in all sorts of sponsorship. I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if they were there for the presentation of the McCarthy and Sam Maguire trophys in September

Personally I thought 'Luftfansa' would have been catchier and would only have required a decal for one letter.

Apparently the flight home will be rostered as DLH2014 which Google is claiming will depart Rio at 18:00 today heading to Frankfurt. That's 22:00 Dublin time.

Update: some discussion on airliners.net suggests it will be 747-8 D-ABYI. The A346 in the picture up-thread is currently on the Tokyo run so won't be doing this service.

Update 2: Now scheduled via Berlin-Tegel with second leg to Frankfurt. The latter has an unusually helpful arrivals board:
LH 2014 from Rio de Janeiro, Brasilien via Berlin-Tegel
    Airline: Lufthansa
    Planetype: B748
    Registration: DABYI
    Info for Collectors:

    Scheduled, 11:25 , 07/15/2014
    Terminal 1 | Hall B
