Air force plane been circling Glendalough for quite some time :P

Edit - didn't read above entries before I posted - independent chance observation!

Had a random zoom around the globe & noticed that there is no airports in North Korea reported. Not really surprised at that, would that be nearly the only one.

Like these kinds of useless facts.

Relax lads, it's acting as a radio relay or "top cover" for an exercise. Interoperability and all that.
Not the first time operating in that area.

Maybe there's a threat to the Turlough Hill power storage facility :pac:

Edit: Above comment wasn't there when I posted!

Odd one this morning...Andaloujet XQ190 squawked 7700, started descending over 6000fpm, and then disappeared around 15000ft over Turkey. 738.

    Edit: apparently landed at Eskisehir.

Edit 2: reappeared and heading back home.

I think they flew off somewhere before I shut down ~~1.30 or so, but plane must have returned later then. Wonder if there are ground excercises north of the usual suspect (Glen of Imaal)

Interesting non-CAMBER Omni flight over NI at present; it's using callsign OAE701 but it's actually North American's 767-300 N767NA which is special in their fleet because its details are hidden on FR24.

http://fr24.com/B763 <--- such a vague link it's probably not useful

    More useful PF link:

    http://planefinder.net/flight/OAE701

I think this is the aircraft that usually operates the 'no comment' Washington - Amman shuttle but today it's showing as originating in Georgia, via Bucharest. An interesting part of the World at present.

    In perhaps, not north of:D

That's what I would have expected, just assumed that the plane would loop above it rather than where it did (north Glendalough/Camaderry) :)

Probable gives them better radio coverage operating there rather than above. Orbiting D5 might leave them blind on certain spots by the terrain, whereas orbiting north might reduce shadowing. Plus maybe D5 was activated quite high because of the ordnance being used safer being outside.

ILS at DUB is cat 1 at the moment - what does this mean?

There are 3 types- CAT I, CAT II and CAT III. The reason for any of them being in force is generally to do with visibility at the time. So CAT I is in force when visibility is above 800m, etc. See here for details on why each will come into force
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrument_landing_system#ILS_categories

Ability to fly a CAT II/III approach depends on the airlines certification, aircraft certification and crew certification. And not all airports have the relevant equipment either!

Many thanks. Was just speaking to Aphex on here who's working at DUB and he said visibility is bad there.

I think cat I is the most basic of instrument landings ie good visibility but I'm sure someone who does this for a living can put me right!

    Edit - so they have!

Look at this 'Danish Air Transport' masquerading as an Aer Arann/Stobart/Aer Lingus Regional: http://www.flightradar24.com/REA32UR/3e14f11

RE hiring in extra aircraft for summer?
