    Hey All,

    Earlier today, the Aer Lingus flight EI147, Dublin to San Francisco, executed a right hand racetrack style orbit at about 120NM northwest of Donegal. Does anybody know why it done this ? Somebody might have heard it on VHF or HF ? Perhaps resolving a technical issue ?

    I can't post a link to Flightradar24 as I'm a 'new user' :/

    Thanks.

    H./

    Most likely to comply with their 'time over' for oceanic entry. There's no radar control over the ocean, so separation is based on time. The preceding aircraft on the same route (or portion of the route) may have been too close, and the time couldn't be complied with by slowing down sufficiently.
    Best guess.

    In general ATIS information includes:

    name of aerodrome;
    arrival and/or departure indicator; 'this is Dublin arrival information' 'Delta'
    designator; 'Delta'
    time of observation, if appropriate; '21:00' (9pm)
    surface wind direction and speed, including significant variations; 'wind 240 at 6'(wind direction from 240 degrees, 6 kts)
    visibility and, when applicable, RVR; *(see note) 'visibility 6000m'
    present weather; *(see note) 'Few 1500, broken 4000' (few cloud at 1500ft aal, broken cloud at 4000ft aal)
    clouds below 1.500 m (5000 ft) or below the highest minimum sector altitude (MSA), whichever is greater; cumulonimbus (Cb); if the sky is obscured, vertical visibility when available;*
    air temperature; 'temp minus 2, dew point minus 2'
    dew point temperature;
    altimeter setting(s); 'QNH 1038' (setting on altimeter so it will read the airport elevation when on the ground)
    any available information on significant meteorological phenomena in the approach and climb-out areas including wind shear, and information on recent weather of operational significance;
    trend forecast, when available;
    type of approach(es) to be expected; ' Approach type ILS runway 28'
    the runway(s) in use; 'Departure runway 28'
    significant runway surface conditions and, if appropriate, braking action; 'Runway Wet'
    holding delay, if appropriate;
    transition level, if applicable; 'transition level 60' (flight level 60 is lowest available)
    other essential operational information;
    and
    specific ATIS instructions.
    * These elements are replaced by the term “CAVOK” when:

    the visibility is 10 km or more, and
    no significant weather, and
    no clouds below 1.500 m (5000 ft) or below the highest minimum sector altitude (MSA), whichever is greater, and
    no cumulonimbus (Cb)
