Why do all the heavies choose 28 instead especially in this weather? Is 16/34 too short.

I've seen AL A330's land on 16 in the past.

It looks like everybody else has to hold off from runway 16 while the Emirates tries to land on 28. Seems to be creating a bit of a backlog.

ILS can't be radiated on 16 when 28 ILS is on. We are also not allowed use 16 and 28 simultaneously following a runway incursion.

That'll be RYR315L, try using the ICAO code as that's what people will hear when they are listening to liveatc.net

I was on UA23 this morning from Newark

Scariest flight I've ever been on and this is coming from someone who flies weekly...
Plane was stuck on runway in Newark for 2 hours whilst they figured out to whether to take off or return, 300 flights cancelled from Newark except transatlantic. The plane was de iced twice. Very very bumpy flight , teas and waters going everywhere... Was ok once out over Halifax and through the eastern US storm.

The flight into dublin was very scary, pilot was circling for 50mins or so before he tried to land, he got about 400 foot before he pulled up, then went straight sideways into the gusts. To say the plane got blown around is an understatement, there was screams and more screams! Pilot climbed and went around again and then said over the intercom that the plane , a 757 was too small to land in these conditions and we were heading for Shannon.
He then said Shannon was now windy so they were opening up a longer runway in order to see can they land. No mention of fuel emergency but I thought having circled for an hour and been on the runway for two, they must have been short on fuel.. Was out of Irish Sea getting knocked around .
2nd time was scary too but landed straight into the gusts..
I was really shaken along with all the passengers

They seem to be changing to runway 28 for all landings now

That EY landing looked very hairy but they got her down.
How did it look from the ground?
I was on that flight, yeah... fairly hairy alright. The first run, I had a feeling they were going to go around a minute before they did. It was gusting like crazy. Nice 45-50 minutes holding before the wind finally settled down enough to let us land.

I think 'on' the ground might be a little more appropriate all things considered.:pac:

With this, and 10 aircraft holding and more on the way, there must be at least one controller saying "I guess I picked the wrong day to give up smoking".:D

AFR1578 down safe no need for emergency vehicles thankfully.

Bit dodgy that 'flaps problem', bet he was low on fuel and didn't wanna say it :D

What happened to poor EI3241 / REA41BZ? Is that a case of missed approach after holding for a fair while? Dunno how to post link direct for that flight, but currently out over Maynooth direction

Was not listening but it looks like it's off to Shannon now.

To post a link click the aircraft icon, then copy the address from the address bar http://www.flightradar24.com/REA41BZ

Presume he'll drop off FR24 somewhere over the midlands then, the coverage doesn't go as far as Shannon I think.

There doesn't seem to be as many holding now, two ryanairs look like they're going to start approach. Must've calmed down a bit there.

There's a Cessna near Holyhead that was circling as well, wonder will he head in to Dublin as well. Came from near Hannover.

It looks like this thread is drifting away from what I'd imagine it was supposed to be for.

I know most of you are looking at FR24 but a running commentary going on - and lasting for pages!

    Oh well.
