Deer rut in Galway

Does anyone know of any good places to go and try and see the red deer rut in Galway? I know the Irish Wildlife Trust is organising a trip to Killarney in October but it's a little too far for me. I've heard they can be seen in Connemara but was wondering if anyone has any experience.
