Good news indeed. Hopefully in time it will also be extended to go from Longford to Kilashee, where there is allready a nice pathway along the canal that can stretch all the way to keenagh, ballymahon and abbeyshrule.
One problem with the greenway in mayo is the number of gates to stop livestock from wandering. If they put these in in Longford, it will be a disaster as you will need to stop every couple of kms to open a gate.

I think the plan is to go from longford only to the shannon. Yes I agree that doing the section to Kilashee would be brilliant too. There is a nice stretch of roadway between the new lyneen bridge and kilashee so it wouldnt be hard to join up.

In fact, I saw that the GAA are planning to build a large training center on lands adjoining that canal at that location. Maybe the local authorities can get the GAA to also fix up the towpath there too while they are there.

The GAA development at Lyneen, Killashee has been canceled. Years of planning applications and Bord Plénala finally give the go ahead and the GAA pull the plug.
