I'm on the early Sat morning flight arriving at 10:30 too. Liked to get to expo early and sort that out. Open to taxi pooling...myself and OH.

Mr Stew and I are also on that Aer Lingus flight and definitely open to car pooling, I think it was about €40 last year so should work out about a tenner a head. The expo is right beside an S-bahn stop and there are also plenty of taxis available so it's easy to get form there to hotels etc.

Sounds like a plan. Mrs FBOT will be travelling with me as well. We can link up closer to the big day.

Looks like the breakfast run is off so if ye're all on the Saturday morning flight :)

I'm flying in Friday afternoon and plan to do the breakfast run on Saturday.
Anyone know how the start waves are allocated? I think I mentioned an expected finish time when I registered, is that all they go off or do they look for any kind of proof from a previous race?

I think whatever time you put on the original form is the pen you'll be put on the day. I don't think you can change that without proof, and that would have to be at the Expo. Last time I was there, they were pretty strict about people being in the correct pens on the morning of the race IIRC.
Oh, and I remember with the Paris marathon you had to bring a signed form from your GP to say you were fit to run. I haven't spotted anything like that for Berlin so I'm guessing it's not required?

You would have been given a PAPS key (number) after you answered some medical questions on your original application. This was then required to be entered onto your entry form before you signed up/paid. There's no need for anything else (certificates etc.)

I'm on a Friday flight so will probably do the breakfast run - my target time says we won't be pacing each other anytime soon though!

The breakfast run is just about keeping the leg muscles loose, so I'm happy to run at whatever pace we can all stay together at. I loved it last time. Tea/coffee, bananas and big juicy jam doughnuts for breakfast at the end :)

My comment was more about WithCheesePlease's idea of running together in the actual race. Would certainly love to join any and all for the breakfast run. Someone who's done the race before (eg yaboya1) could nominate a meeting point. :)

Anyone flying from Shannon on the Friday?

Flights out of Dublin were a mental place by the time I was booking, ended up being a good bit cheaper for me to fly from Shannon (even with the bus ticket to the airport).
Yeah I'm on the Shannon flight Fri,

No worries. The offer stands for anyone else that might be interested. I'll leave it on the table until Friday anyway and if there's no interest I'll cancel then.

Thanks for the offer but my brother definitely doesn't want that flight.

It starts outside the Charlottenburg Palace. We could arrange to assemble there a certain amount of time beforehand? Shouldn't be difficult to spot each other. I know what you look like Murph_D, but WithCheesePlease will have to bring a banner, or maybe an Irish flag?? :D

Not in the marathon, but that's actually not a bad idea for the breakfast run.
Will make me easy to spot for my fellow participants :)

Im on the same early morning flight from Dublin on the Saturday (landing in Berlin at 10:25am)

I would be well up for taxi pooling to the Expo straight from the Airport. There will be me and one other, so happy to pool with two more and split the fair 4 ways. Someone mentioned above that it should be around €40 fare, so €10 a head is grand. I think my airport is ony a mile or two from there so happy to stroll back after the expo.

Let me know if any of ye, or two are interested in a taxi share straight from Airport to expo

Just got "start card" email (registration confirmation) including expo tickets and details - check your spam folders if you didn't get yours yet...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,275 ✭✭✭jfh

the Germans don't miss a trick, first having to rent the chip & charging visitors into expo.

Feeling on a buzz today after a 21.25mile/34.2km run yesterday with my sister and running partner niamhpamela. Only an extra 8km to knock down on the day. Roll on Berlin :) Hope everyone smashed their long run this weekend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 535 ✭✭✭jmcc99_98

My final LSR done! (21miles) - went well and now for the taper madness.

Planning 16 next Sunday, followed by 7 the following Sunday. Then 26.2 the following Sunday!!!!!

Pick up a welcome Berlin pass in the airport, which is your travel sorted for the weekend, and get the train in to the city. Depending on which pass you go for they're about 28 to 40 Euros. The public transport over there is unbelievable.
