Looking for Dermatologist

I was given a referral letter today from the GP to visit a dermatologist for acne related issues, I rang blackrock clinic and was quoted a breathtaking 180€ per consultation.

James's hospital currently has a 3 month delay in appointments, so I'm going to have to go private - any recommendation for a cheap dermatologist in the Dublin area?

EDIT: found that Adare offer consultations for E60
http://www.adarecosmetics.ie/dermatology-consultations - is this the best way forward?

Dr Mackle is a GP with a special interest in Dermatology, not a Consultant Dermatologist. I am not saying he isn't good at what he does, competent, etc. but just staying a fact which accounts for the price difference. There was a recent thread on here about 150 euro dermatology consults for a dermatolgoy along with Accutane . just for reference, only consultant dermatologists can prescribe this medication.

If u are n't willing to wait for public i'd recommend you pay for a private dermatolgoist, at least the first visit.

Dr. Mackle is apparently able to issue roaccutane according to the website: http://www.adarecosmetics.ie/acne and her secretary, does this not mean she is a consultant dermatologist?

she is a GP so she can prescribe any drug under the sun. She just didn't specialise in dermatology so cannot be called a "consultant" in that field.

No, she is a GP with a HDip in Dermatology with a special interest. So is an expert but not a consultant Dermatologist. Please see my next post as well for clarification.

This isn't true. GPs can't prescribe certain protected drugs like, retrovirals for HIV, octoplas for blood thinning reversal, methadone for Heroin Detox etc. etc.

Having looked into Roaccutane, I was wrong, GPs with 1 years clinical experience in dermatology can prescribe it, Dr Mackle is a graduate of the HDip course and tutor in dermatology from Cardiff university so fulfills this criteria.

A pharmcist would not dispense a prescription for roaccutante if the prescriber was a joe bloggs gp.

Sounds like an abundance of experience for your average spotty teenager haha, I'll probably just give her a call tomorrow

    Thanks everyone for your replies
