Sky Broadband no IP address with PS3

Hi, I've switched to Sky from Eircom & I cannot connect my PS3 to the WiFi. It is incredibly frustrating & after 5 or 6 calls to Sky I'm still no closer to a solution. I contacted Playstation who told me it is more than likely a problem with Sky blocking the ports for the Playstation. I rang sky back with codes that Playstation support gave me & the guy in Sky told me he couldn't change them but gave me the name of a website which shows me how. This leads me to believe this is the problem. The Playstation is picking up the WiFi no problem (49% signal strength) but it just won't connect as I keep getting a "no I.P address" problem.

Has anyone encountered similar problems with Sky? If so, I would appreciate any information you might have on the issue & perhaps you may throw a possibly solution my way as I am unfamiliar with how to change the ports myself

It would be some oversight if Sky are deliberately blocking PS3 ports. Is the PS3 picking up the IP address dynamically (via DHCP) or is it static? AFAIK the eircom router will use address space 192.168.1.X whereas Sky router uses 192.168.0.X. There just may be a IP address allocation issue.

It's not picking up any IP address, it is scanning for it & then it just times out. How do I check for a static IP address?

I recently got sky broadband and have no issue with connecting my ps3 at all. Try a wired connection to see if that helps.

From a Google search why not try this:
switch off your router for 30 secs and then switch it back on..

    a) instead of selecting easy choose custom when on connection settings
    b) scan through and do not make any changes allowing it to select everything automatically
    c) when going through the connections let it check your DNS server, I.P address automatically

check connection settings and your done
