Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A few weeks ago me, and my 2 mates went to go visit my mates brother. His brother has an addiction problem. Long story short we found him dead on the sofa. Now the garda are ringing me looking for a statement. I was asked a few questions the night we found him and now they are looking for more information?? They have already received 2 statements from my friends

Do I have to make a statement?

Why would you not want to make a statement where it concerns the dead brother of a friend. Surely compassion would compel you to.

Is there any particular reason for your reluctance? Do you believe the Gardaí are carrying out anything other than an inquest?

I can sympathise to an extent in that it is probably something you do not want to have to relive but still, if the authorities are investigating the death for any reason, it is in everyone's best interests that they get co-operation.

There is a possibility the death was caused by a fight that happened a day before.. Between the man and his neighbour. post-mortem has not come back yet but I don't want to be involved or mentioned in any court cases..

Ok, I will ask you not to disclose any further information about this because it's still under investigation and we do not generally allow discussion of these matters on this site.

However, what I would encourage you to do is to think about this quite hard before deciding not to give a statement. The Gardaí obviously feel your statement will assist them in their investigation. If you do not give a statement, it might have a negative affect on the outcome of any case they might be trying to build.

Whatever the reasons for your reluctance, try and look at the big picture in terms of what all of this could mean to you, your friends, family and other people.
