Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do you remove your helmet in shops?

Just a quick query as to general practice or etiquette.
When you go to a shop/garage do you automatically remove your helmet before entering? I find it to be a pain in the hole at garages when paying for fuel but I have always removed my helmet before entering.

What do the rest of yis do?

    Ya always do.

I actually go about a mile out of my way to go to a station where I can pay at the pump so I don't have to.

Local petrol station to me I don't remove the lid everywhere else I do. No idea why I stopped taking the lid off in the local one.

It's a shame that we don't have more pay at the pump stations. So much handier as you can be in and out without having to wait for the person who does their weekly shopping in a petrol station, then counts out their money slower than a snail, who always seems to be ahead in the queue.

I do take it off in shops that I don't know or haven't visited before. Some have signs up about taking off motorcycle helmets. I do leave it on in the shops I know mostly when I have a flip up helmet on.
Some shops are anal about it but most are fine around me.There was one particular time when a girl said I had to remove my helmet or she couldn't serve me as it was policy,I accepted it and took off my full face helmet but left on the balaclava. That wasn't good enough for her but it was for me,threw the 20euro on the counter and walked out. Never set foot in there again.

I've a flip up. Never take it off if I'm just paying for petrol. Everything else, yes.

The chocolate is yum in Switzerland, I'd rather it in my mouth than on my biker helmet fave plastic mask part hence the no wearing of helmets there.

Buying petrol - yes, common courtesy.
Buying porn - nope, common courtesy.

    For a fuel stop, no.

But if I'm stopping for a anything else with the fuel then yes.

Most of the time I do take off my helmet.

On the odd occasion when it is just a fuel stop, and we are going to be back on the bike straight after paying, I might leave it on. But if the shop staff ask me to take my helmet off, I will.

I do what most of us do here, open face lid with shades stays on in the local petrol station. If its another station in town depends on what mood I'm in but most of the time its less hassle to remove it. That said I would have no problem taking it off if asked...

I usually leave it on but flip up the lid if I buy an exact amount that I have cash for. If I've completely filled up then I'll take it off because I'll be at the desk more than 2 seconds.

I only ever fill up by exact amounts at petrol stations that I never go to for that reason. If they tell me take it off there I'll just hand them the money and say thank you. No point in spending a minute fcuking around with helmet and gloves when It takes me 2 seconds to pay just for their policies. I know technically it's rude, but then again, it's kinda rude to presume everyone wearing a motorcycle helmet is a potential robber.

Yes. Though I shouldn't have to as I'm not a criminal and don't like being treated like one.

I take mine off 99.9% of the time. I've no idea if me wearing my lid scares or intimidates people serving me.

The times I've gone into pay for petrol with it on I always apologise for leaving it on.

As long as your not clad in all black with a tinted visor and packing a glock, I don't see much of a the problem. I have a flip-up helmet so i dont take it off, I just flip it up, my face is in full view and i've never had any problems with people. Plus, I already have to take off my gloves to get my wallet out of my pocket which is the real pain :pac:

Always, unless I specifically have an agreement with the staff as in a couple of my regular places (flip-up lid). It's basic manners.
threw the 20euro on the counter and walked out. Never set foot in there again.

You're a child. The girl behind the counter doesn't decide shop policy and doesn't deserve to be on the receiving end of your tantrum.

Yes, we do, you're giving them no way of discerning, a turban doesn't cover the face or hide identity like a full face does, if you've ever had a gun stuck in your face by a knob wearing a helmet you're never going to want to see another.
Honestly this astounds me, cannot for the life of me understand the big hangup about taking a lid off when entering someone else's property, talk about false a sense of entitlement.

I don't ride here but back when I was in Australia the service station attendants would not unlock the pump until you've taken your helmut off on the drive. Can't even fill up without taking it off, let alone going in and paying.

I never have or been asked to remove my lid......so i dont.....maybe some people have guilty eyes...or maybe its their gun/knife.......:P

I have a flip face but almost always wear my prescription sunglasses. I'm virtually blind without them so what I do is flip my lid (lol) at the pump but remove the lid and sling it over my wrist as I go to pay. It's that or go rooting under my seat for me specs.

When I had a full face, I always removed it. There's no point in seeking the inevitable confrontation.

I'll give you a laugh.. About twenty years ago I was riding home during winter when I hit an ice/snow storm.. So I pulled into the ESSO forecourt in Ballybough and took off my helmet to put on a balaclava ~ and the assistant pressed his panick attack alarm :)

I never do, wear a flip up. If though im gonna be off the bike for more than say 5 minutes i will just to be more comfortable

I was "escorted" from the Blanch centre for not fully removing my lid, ie I had it on my head like a hat. The security guards
were dícks, I was delivering a large box and needed both hands to carry it in to the management suite, which I did. When I got it dropped off 2 of them and a supervisor were waiting to escort me off the premises.
So the answer is yes I do, but if they tell me to take it completly off, then Heuston we have a problem
