    Hi,

I wonder can anyone suggest a good personal injury solicitor in Cork city, ideally but not necessarily with a medical background?

I am a young girl who through no fault of my own has been injured and left in chronic pain, unable to walk, work or drive. I have spent the last six months trying all types of treatment to no avail and am now having to face up to the fact that I am not going to recover and as I am on my own, am going to have to pay someone to look after me.

I would be grateful for any suggestions, as I never dreamed I'd find myself in this situation and don't know any solicitors in Cork.

Have you been on to the Personal Injuries Board?

Personal Injury claims must be submitted through InjuriesBoard.ie unless settled directly between the parties after the accident - you have to go to to them first - you should not need to use a solicitor.

Una Doyle over in Crosses Green does a lot of these cases.
Worth a phone call if nothing else.

    * I'm in no way affiliated with the above Law Office.

    Hi,

No I haven't. Thank you for that, I was not aware of them. Appreciate it!

    Hi horgan_p,

Thank you for that, I may end up having to get a solicitor. The injury has caused a range of symptoms, so it mightn't be straight forward.

You have to go to the Injuries Board first if you are considering an action - you do not need to engage a solicitor, though you can, as you cannot pursue the case without going through Injuries Board first. It will cost €45 to make an application.

If the respondent does not consent to InjuriesBoard.ie assessing your claim for compensation or you reject InjuriesBoard.ie will then allow you to pursue your claim through the courts.

If you do get a settlement the Injuries Board will not pay any legal fees as you do not need to have a solicitor involved in the process.

Thanks evilivor, I will get straight onto them so. It would suit me to not have to get a solicitor, as I have already spent a fortune on treatments.

Hey starbar33.... sorry to hear about your issues...

I'd recommend getting a solicitor. While I agree that conceptually you can go through injuries board without a solicitor, they would tend to be the more "vanilla" cases. With multiple and ongoing symptoms & issues including considerable impacts to quality of life, future earning potential, paying for ongoing treatment/care this is where engaging a solicitor is probably the smartest course of action.

(Not affiliated with legal profession in any way) - Just further down the injuries process myself.

I'd also strongly recommend getting more than one opinion on ongoing injuries. It was through my own perseverance and research that I managed to get one long standing injury to a better position than it was.... and it was after finding the right specialist on 3rd/4th opinion.

    Hi KennM,

Thank you for your advice re getting a solicitor, great to get someone's opinion who's going through the process. I am waiting to see another consultant, who should give me a definite answer on whether there are any other treatment options. I saw where Una Doyle's practice deals with injury board applications, so I might give her a call and ask her opinion on my situation. Thanks again :)

You should definitely also engage a solicitor for the best possible outcome. Nearly all of them welcome personal injury cases, so it's really a case of going to the best solicitor.

Thanks for that Angeline, I think I will alright.

I'd recommend Ronan Daly Jermyn on South Mall as I have used them in the past with something similar, didn't need to do anything myself only write down what happened etc.

I had dealings with fodlaw.IE/personal injury.php They were very much efficient and were always at hand to help with my compensation claim. They are based in the south mall Cork and cover personal injury and compensation claims all over Ireland. They served me well. Hope this helps.

I'll second Coakley Maloney, Julian Kahn helped me with a compensation claim years ago, very professional and aware of health issues etc.

Speaking myself as a solicitor who practices in Cork, please do be careful in any case as you *must* bring proceedings within 2 years of the date of the accident. I suspect the OP might be in difficulty is still waiting for responses!

Anyone can make an Injuries Board application without a solicitor, the problem is whether or not to accept what they award. They tend to be unimaginative at best (I have seen wildly different injuries get the same award), and sometimes plain wrong in their assessment.

    Shock horror!
A solicitor has reservations about the personal injuries bord!

Pretty much anyone with some insight into the board has a problem with them. A broken arm that recovers with no issues gets the same award as a concert pianist with a broken arm who loses the use of her fingers and can no longer continue her career.
