    This thing is a monster.

I notice BBC News 24 are showing live footage now and then coming from Indian broadcasters.

EDIT: Oh wow, it looks like a lot of people have ignored evacuation orders and are staying put on the coast. :(

that eye wall replacement couldnt have come at a worse time for the storm, but it couldnt have come at a better time for the folks in india.

reported wind intensity dropping rapidly according to that Indian news tv station

A mixture of good luck and levelheaded planning and preparedness by the authorities = less than 100 fatalities rather than a repeat of 10,000+ as in 1999.

Best possible outcome for everyone involved.

Yep, India's 1.2 billion population is still intact and heavily contributing to global warming as always, which will subsequently and ironically create more catastrophic hurricanes.

The perpetual cycle of the human's race's stupidity continues.

    It certainly does.

I find this quite offensive. Do you suggest we don't rejoice in the fact that so many human lives were saved thanks to preventative action by the Indian government?

    Mod Note:
    Stay on topic

This thread is for discussing Cyclone Pailin, it is not the place to rehash the great global warning debate

Off topic, but GFS showing a large Typhoon off shore Japan nest tues/weds. Very close to Fukushima on Wednesday. May not pan out like that, but worth keeping an eye on.

Quick update on this storm. I've been watching this for a few days and GFS Asia got it spot on. It brushed the Japanese coast last night, leaving 17 dead and 50 missing. Heavy snowfalls could be a problem later as the system side-swipes an already cold northern Japan, particularly Hokkaido.
