    Hi Thelostcountry,

If it is just a case of adding your name to an electricity account, we can do this but we would require permission from the existing account-holder first (there is no charge to do this).

If you alone are taking over paying the electricity bills however, you would need to register an account with Electric Ireland, by providing us with the current meter reading and the address/your name, date of birth and telephone number/email.
A new account with Electric Ireland has a €300 security deposit applied to it (refundable after 14 months) if the customer does not pay by direct debit. If the customer pays by direct debit though, there is no security deposit.

Do let us know if we can assist you further.

    Regards,
    Una

Hi, a Polish girl has moved into the house and she requires a bill in her name to get a bank account ... ive seen that if you change the name on the bill and pay direct debit that there is no charge, however she needs this bill to even get an account. Is there any way round this?

With regard to the comment on adding your name to an account .. does that mean both names will appear in the bill when it is posted out?

    Hi galway2mayo2,

Thank you for your post. If your housemate wishes to set up an account in her name, we can do so and then issue an official letter confirming the account is in her name and she's a registered account holder. She can then bring that letter to her bank and set up an account suitable for Direct Debit. Once her bank account is finalised she should contact us to set up the Direct Debit, and the €300 security deposit which is automatically applied can be reversed.

This would mean that there would be an outstanding security deposit in place for a short period until her bank details are finalised, but it will ultimately be reversed upon the setup of the Direct Debit.

To register the account in her name, she can contact us here on Boards from her personal account, or by calling our Service team on 1850 372 372 (Monday- Saturday, 8am-8pm). She will need to provide the property MPRN, current meter reading, and confirm the date she's taking over the property from.

If there's anything further we can advise you on, please let us know.

    Kind regards,
    Aoife
