Good to hear from you Stickybean, it's a tough time, I always find it hard when I hear of others are pregnant sometimes, sorry your having a tough time

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,846 ✭✭✭barbiegirl

Thanks Barbiegirl, good to know, into my last round of TSI and so far it's torture, had a scan today - day10, follicles are too small so was sent home to take more gonal f and have to head back to clinic on wed for another scan, so annoying, thought today was my last time up there for a while, typical for me really :-(

Chin up you never know and remember this is all a path to a goal and eventually we'll get there.

    Sticky bean welcome back.

Sticky, welcome back, hope your stay here is a brief one. :)

I've got my follow up appointment next month, to see if the bloodwork turned up anything that could be thwarting our efforts. I have one ovulation before then so we shall see. But if I'm in my usual unsuccessful state by then, I'm on clomid.

Just an update from me, was back at the clinic today, my cyst shrank slightly from 19x18 to 18x18 so that's good, I have a size 16 follicle on the right and a 13 on the left, lining is 10 and hormones are 2000, i remember the numbers for once!! So had to take my 5th Gonal F trigger shot today, Ovitrelle tomorrow, tsi tomorrow and Friday, should ovulate on Saturday so then cones the gruelling waiting process! Can't wait lol!!!

Stickybean it's great to hear from you! Did you get your hubby on the supplements for motility and also the other dos and don'ts for improving sperm quality e.g. no laptop on the lap, no sauna, no baths, loose underwear, no cycling longer than 30 mins

  • Registered Users Posts: 686 ✭✭✭Hollywood130

Lucuma, never heard about the no cycling thing, really no longer than 30 minutes?

Ladies is there any supplements I should be taking while ttc? I'm taking folic acid and thats it besides fruit and veg!

Dr C in GFC said that folic acid was sufficient when I attended there. If you have a good diet, thats all you need. What about your partner - Zinc or other supplements might help there, as well as a good diet too.

    Hi All,
Felt compelled to reply after reading some of the threads in this forum. I think I have mentioned this before - but the thread is so long - no harm in writing it again in the hope it may help someone.

I too,was in the same situation as many of you. Concieved my first DD with little effort - but TTC my next child was not so easy. I, too, had all the tests done, on both me and my OH - but nothing conclusive came back. While I was waiting on some test results - I found out I was pregnant (after 2.5 years of trying) - but sadly, we lost this baby at 11 weeks....I took it extremely badly, was very disallusioned, and really felt it was never going to happen.

My sister in law booked me in for a reflexology session - and I was very sceptical about going - only really went because she paid for it up front. This woman was a life saver - she not only reassured me that I would become pregnant - she got my head back into the right space to be ready for it again. Three and a half months after going to her - I was pregnant again - bearing in mind this was with over 2.5 years of no success.
Today, I have a happy healthy 2 year old DS, who is the apple of my eye...

Guys - dont give up hope! Dont rule out reflexology - the lady I went to specialised in fertility - and I have sent MANY to her all who now have positive results / babies.
PM me if you want details - she is based in Co Kildare.

Best of luck all - its a tough time but there is light at the end of the tunnel

    xxx

Yeah too long in the saddle causes the testes to overheat and that is bad for sperm production. My hubby recently suggested to me he was thinking of joining a cycling club - I was like yeah after I've reached the menopause you can! :D

If there's no known issue with sperm I wouldn't say the cycling is an issue but if there is a sperm issue then you want to be trying everything to improve it

There are loads of TTC supplements but fruit and veg (and also fish and pulses and wholegrains) are very important. I was taking a whole rake of supplements to be honest

Neyite, I need to book a consult, with one of the dr up there, would you recommend DR C?? So hard to know who to go to. my diet would be pretty good so I'll just continue what I'm doing, DP isn't too bad could prob do with a little less sugar!!

Mauraf, I have been meaning to do reflexology for ages now, there is a lady in my area specialising in Fertility so I must book a session with her

I consulted with Dr.C and found her very straightforward and happy to answer any questions and has a lovely gentle way. Dr. E is known to be straight talking but some have found him blunt, even abrupt sometimes. He won't sugarcoat it but he won't give you false hope either if he thinks a procedure won't work for you. He was the one who let my cycle go ahead with two mature follicles and one less mature where Dr. C cancelled my first one with the same follicles . Dr.E's cycle was my lucky one so I'd be happy to consult with him, or any of them. A friend had isci with Dr.L and found her good too.

Thanks a million for that, it has made my mind up, think I'll book the consult for Dr.C, seen her once before in UHC and she was very straight forward that was the only time I met her, will book on Monday, I know there is a 6week waiting list so at least i have time to make a list of questions!

    Hi Lucama,

    Thanks for the welcome back!

Hubby got some male preconception supplements with some Qc10. The rest of the advice the doctor gave didn't really apply (he doesn't smoke, doesn't really drink, maybe once in a blue moon he'll have a beer, never wears tight underwear and doesn't use the bath (just the shower)). We got him a tray for his laptop to avoid it being on his lap, but he doesn't use it that often. We also tried having regular $ex outside the window of hope to keep his little guys fresh :)

He has been trying to loose a bit of weight, he is a little over weight, but nothing too worrying...

Stickybean, sounds exactly like my other half! Exact same! Nothing more they can do, we're trying every second day too just incase, it's too risky leaving it just around the time you think ovulation could be occuring, I'm supposed to ovulate tomorrow so today and tomorrow are important but i think the days after are too

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,356 ✭✭✭Lucuma

On my lucky cycle we did the opposite. Hubby abstained for 5 days (increase sperm count) and then we did the deed in the morning (higher sperm count) of ovulation (try to get as close to the egg as possible to avoid relying on sperm surviving for days). Worked for us. But there are lots of different theories and approaches.

Appointment tomorrow, feeling very nervous, no idea what they will ask us to try next...

I have a feeling it will be another cycle of clomid, which I really really want to avoid.

    Fingers crossed xxx

I said no to more clomid and they didn't argue with me

Same here Sticky bean I just told them I wasn't taking it again and they agreed.

Can I ask ladies what your problems were with Clomid?

My lap & dye didnt show anything wrong, I am back to see the consultant in a few weeks and I imagine Clomid will be mentioned as I dont ovulate.

    Any insights would be great.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,513 ✭✭✭✭Lucyfur

I just went crazy and fat. First month was grand, just a bit of nausea in the 5 days taking it...from then on it was horrible. I ovulate on my own so I still don't know why I was put on it!

I've since found out that IVF is our only shot, so I'm not going through the hormentalness of clomid again!

Oh and my boobs, jesus, Dolly Parton would've looked tiny next to me!

That said, I know many others that had no ill effects :)

I have put on so much weight since my periods stopped, I dont know if its a coincidence or I am just extra lazy & greedy but could do without that if at all possible.

I dont know what to do, wait to speak to the consultant I guess. So frustrating.

    Hi Melissa,

I already ovulate on my own, but my periods are irregular, so I was put on a low dose of clomid, the first month was okay but after that I had horrible pain for 3-5 days when I was ovulating, and my skin went really bad, I was also very very emotional. I then had two months clomid free.

The second cycle (of 3 months on a higher dose) I had what can only be described as pregnancy symptoms from CD10, pains in my sides, increased appetite but not feeling able to eat anything as I had bouts of nausea, strange taste in my mouth, again very bad skin, very bad pain during ovulation, sore breasts, and extremely moody, I also gained a good bit of weight, I think I was just in a generally bad mood and very tired when I was taking it. So if I can, I will be avoiding at all costs.

Oh and my favourite symptom, how could I forget - vaginal dryness!!! so fun when you should be having hours of pleasure...

I already have that unfortunately and absolutely no sex drive so pretty impossible for me to get pregnant ever.

Maca is meant to be good for increasing sex drive. You can get it in health food shops

Thought you shouldnt really take it when taking clomid tho. I wasted good money on it when I was doing my clomid thing and ended up not taking it on the advice of the consultant.

I also have working ovaries, but was put on clomid and pregnyl. Thinking behind this is that it strenthens ovulation and gives your egg a bit of a boost. It was a very low dose so I didnt think that I had symptoms but in hindsight I think I had mild ones. Hard to tell really since i was usually a bitchy moody mare anyway.

May have to go on it again next month. I'll suck it up for the end result, but I probably should avoid people for a while lol.

It just made me hormonal and a horrible person to live with . I thought ivf drugs would make me the same but surprisingly I was fine on them.
