Nemo and barbiegirl, I'm so so sorry to hear your sad news. Life is just so cruel sometimes. Hope you are both doing ok.

Barbiegirl, best of luck whenever you do go ahead with donor eggs. It is such a difficult decision to make but I hope that some day it all works out for you. I am going to give my own eggs one last try before we look into this.

Nemo, how cruel after everything you have already been through. I really don't know what to say. Take care xx

Hi all. Had scan today measuring 5 weeks 5 days. Was happy to see heartbeat but again trying not to get too excited as I saw the heartbeat the last time too. Have to go back in 2 weeks time for another scan. Then all going well I am getting an early booking app for 10 weeks. They are going to put stitch in at 14 weeks. Wish time would just fly by. The unknown is scary

So we had our nurses appointment yesterday. Went really well. We had been planning to start treatment on our next cycle, but because I have a history of Letz, the want to run a trial catheter run before the hopeful embryo transfer. They could have done it this month, but as we weren't abstaining or using protection (which they never asked us too), they have to wait till the next cycle.

Hi sticky, it's all moving along so quickly for you now. It's great having a plan of some sorts....keeps the mind occupied!

I haven't been abstaining either Stickybean and I think I'll have to have an Endo scratch done, doubt they'd do that on Tuesday during the review appointment? AF is due to arrive on the 17th so I suppose I won't have long to wait.

I routed out a letter the clinic sent me and it said to abstain for 4 weeks, I got that letter last year, put it away and only thought about it when they asked me if I got the letter, bit late now!

Great to hear it was a good appointment and things are moving along for you. I received a phone call from the clinic to confirm our appointment today and they told me it will be IVF and not ICSI so at least I know that much before I rock up! I'm a bit behind you but I look forward to your updates xx

We had our first (private) appointment a few weeks ago, we had previously been public. First appointment they went through all our results and then they said they would opt for ICSI. I had to re-do some bloods, which are due back about now.

The second appointment was with a nurse, it was actually really good, she really dumbed everything down for us. We went throught the whole process from the base line scan to the pregnancy test. It lasted almost 2 hours, there was a lot to take in. We went through all the medication, how to administer it. Also all scenarios, and what ifs... Then we got our kit, this was a lunch box style bag (this si to keep the meds cool if you are out and about), a sharps bin, some needles and some wipes.

Oh one thing I recommend, if you haven't already done this, apply for you Drugs Payment Scheme card NOW. It took about 5 weeks for us to get. Now she did say most hospital pharmacies will allow you to pay the €144 (I think that's the amount) and when your card comes they you bring it in. But no harm to have if from now.

We also had to get HIV blood tests, these are needed every 3 months

There was probably loads more, but thats all I can think of now, feel free to ask me anything and hopefully I can help x

That info is great StickyBean, thanks so much. Yes I have the card from when I done OI last year so at least thats something!

Sounds like you had a great appointment, hope mine is like that, there is a nurse in the clinic we had before hope we have her again. We'll definitely have to get the HIV bloods done then, it was last year when we had that done last. So looking forward to getting started, we'll at least having a plan in place!

So I had my appointment today and it went really well. The IVF info talk came first and it was really informative. We then met with the nurse for a history review which also went well. We had bloods done for HIv, Hep B etc. I need to have FSh, Thyroid bloods done between Day 4-7 of next cycle because I'm on Day21 now so they couldn't do them today.

They are putting me on Long Protocol because I have Endometriosis and I need to get an Endo Scratch done. We will be starting from the first day of my June cycle. Feel like I started today though so I'm feeling good

Hope everyone else is doing good xx

Girls how long did it take for your Drug Payment Scheme card to come back? I stupidly thought I just pay the €144 to the chemist and that was it! Sending it off tomorrow.

Chemist can do an emergency registration there and then so all you will have to do is pay the 144 and you'll get the card in the post at a later date

Ok thanks. I don't need it for a few weeks but good to know that's an option. Any idea how long it does take?

It can take a few weeks for the card to come depending on how efficient the HSE in your local office is. When you get your first prescription bring it to the pharmacy with your PPS number and everyone in the family's PPS numbers and ask to
do an emergency registration. Every pharmacy has the forms. If for some reason they say they can't do it go to a different pharmacy. I have unfortunately heard of some pharmacies not offering to do this for people but it's very rare. Even if you hadn't got your cards by the following month once you go back to the pharmacy where you did the emergency reg it won't be a problem. Once you get the cards then you can go to any pharmacy, you just have to go to the same one in each calendar month as the pharmacies aren't linked so a different one wouldn't know what you've already paid that month

    Hi ladies,
This is my first time posting and I guess I am just looking for support from people in the same boat : (. We have been TTC for nearly 2 yrs now (I am 31, he is 33, no kids yet), and I miscarried last November. It's coming up to what would have been my due date and I'm finding it really hard to stay positive. Haven't had any of the tests done yet apart from my hormones which are normal. I did give accupuncture a try but getting to the appointments around work was just adding to my stress levels (ironic, eh?!) so I gave that up.
I feel like I've talked through everything with DH to death and we just end up getting upset again when I bring it up. Would love to hear any positive stories from you all : ).

    Welcome Druiddreams,
So sorry to hear what you are going through. I unfortunately do not have a positive story as yet as we are also still trying. But like you I did have a miscarriage last August so I have an idea of what you are going through. And I know it's tough. It's a hard thing to cope with as people just don't understand how hard it is. When you say you have talked things through with your partner - I totally understand this. My partner sometimes gets frustrated with bringing it up as he just tells me to forget about it - and I just can't. I just have found it so hard.

The only thing I can say is that I found once my due date passed I found it a little easier to cope with. I still have my off days every so often and still find the day my period comes really difficult but I just move on. I have one or two close friends who have been through it and I found talking to them really helped.

I know you've probably heard all of the cliches like you're still so young and you got pregnant once there's no reason it won't happen again. I personally found that while this is trues it doesn't help me when I'm feeling down.

So I guess I don't really have any advice but I hope knowing that you are not alone helps. :o
I found coming to this thread very helpful also. We're always here for you! :o

Welcome Druiddreams! No positive story here yet either, sorry about that, I am very positive at themoment, starting on our road to IVF so getting stress levels etc in check!

You are definitely not alone and I hope this forum helps xx

    That's great news Hollywood! :D
Glad things are moving for you. Can I ask - what is the nasal spray for?
It must be a relief to get everything moving.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭bobskii

there's a gland in your nose that controls your ovaries(sounds mad) so the nasal spray is used to take control of the gland so that they have complete control of your hormones for the ivf cycle.

Its took us 5 weeks, where are you getting your meds? If it is from the hospital pharmacy, they will let you pay the €144 and then bring them the card in when you get it

Welcome Druiddreams! Sorry to hear about your loss. You are in a great place here for talk and support. The girls here have helped me through some tough times and have been a fountain of knowledge.

Hollywood thats great news your got your date. Delighted for you x

I am just starting the two week wait, after a very busy time. As soon as the witch comes, I get to book in for my catheter trial run, then fingers crossed once there are no issues there, we will get our dates for ICSI :)

Welcome Moanna, well fingers crossed you are late for all the right reasons x

Prob not a huge issue but would any of you think now would be a bad time for me to switch doctors??? I've been trying to get a female doctor in my area for a while, a new clinic opened and there is one there that specialises in Womens health so I'd like to try her. Can NEVER get into see my own doctor when I go, rang yesterday to book in for bloods this week and they couldn't take me, how crazy is that...
