Connecting to my Raspberrypi.....

Hi Folks,

I wonder does anyone have one of these, well, the question is really on trying to ping the IP of my router because for some reason I cannot. The reason I want to is that I first want to establish a connection this far so I can ssh into my raspberry pi module.
I seem to be able to ping my gateway ip which is on the same network.

My R-pi is obviously behind my router and I'm using port forwarding and putty as a client on my pc at work.

I want to install 'samba' on the R-pi at some stage but my fist step is not even working...

Any ideas anyone...God I hate networking...lol

If you are trying to ping the public IP address of your router is the router set to respond to pings?

Why are you bothering with ping? Just try to connect to your SSH port. Does connecting to the Pi over SSH work when you're on the same network?

Hi ,

Yes, at home I have no problems viewing the desktop of my pi on my laptop. I looked at the router, (netgear wnr 2000) and it seems fine.
I have port 22 for ssh and I'll give it a go at work tomorrow but dont hold out any hope.
Do android phones I wonder have any type of 'putty' app?

Thanks folks,

Got it sorted. Used port 22 for getting in ( guess I could use any port or is 22 specific for this?) and 'connectBot' also worked nicely on my android.
Now to get a VNC viewer for android..!!!
