Legal obligation to support fadas

    Hi
I'm interested to know whether a private company operating in Ireland is legally obliged to support fadas for their customer names and addresses.

Is there any national or EU legislation regarding this?

    Thanks for any info

I don't think so, although we could certainly do with it.

Interesting question - doubt it very much given that Government agencies and departments ignore them in customer names and addresses and therefore continually mis-spell them. Same applies to local authorities. Presumably, given the imminent introduction of postal codes, it will no longer be necessary to include addresses in correspondence!

Cinnte gur cheart go mbeadh. Tá sé náireach nach féidir leat d'ainm agus do sheoladh a ionchur ar shuíomhanna i gceart mar nach bhfuil glacadh ag an suíomh leis. Is céim phraiticiúil chun cinn a bheadh ann dá leagfadh an stáit dualgas dá leithéid ar chomhluchtaí a bhíonn ag feidhmiú sa tír seo. Cúram do Phat Rabitte (Aire Cumarsáide) agus Dinny McGinley (Aire Stáit na Gaeltachta)?

Meas tú nach measfadh Pat Rabbitte gur 'cavemen' amháin a mbeadh suim acu i ngnóthaí mar sin? D'fhéarfainn go mbeadh rudaí níos tabhachtaí ná seo ar intinn ag an duine sin agus níos measa fós, nach dtuigfeadh seo cad atá i gceist?

Data Protection Commissioner - you are entitled to have your personal data corrected. :pac:

N'fheadar faoi sin ach cuimhnigh gur Aire de chuid an Lucht Oibre a bhí sa phost nuair a bunaíodh Teilifís na Gaeilge.

Go deimhin, ag feidhmiú ar chinneadh a bhí déanta ag an Rialtas a bhí in oifig roimhe?

I had a look at the case histories on the Commissioner's website and didn't see any precedents regarding spelling. The website says that information held should be 'factually correct' so it may be worth going down this route.
