In fairness, when a prius is being discussed as "fast enough when you put the boot down" I would prefer to collect some z's than to partake :D

    Absolutely nothing.

I was chasing down a 2007 Golf GT TDI DSG with lots of extras but it's been taken off the market.

I've currently got the use of an Avensis. I've had a 2002 Megane offered to me for peanuts as a stop gap car but other than that I've little or no idea what to get or how much to spend.

The thoughts of a loan turns my stomach but I might just have to bite the bullet.

If you get to like the avensis you could look at something like this
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-avensis/5500575

It is in Portlaoise so you could ask George Dalton to check it out (He has a fairly good reputation on boards).

............I have. I think I've grown into my father. I've even gone as far as putting a flatcap on the dashboard :o

AS I have time on my side I'm going to try and take my time. Something I've never done before.

That avensis looks good if it checks out. It can probably be got for a few hundred less than the asking, leather interior, nice looking radio and it is a diesel avensis (all those taxi drivers cant be wrong).

TBH it looks like one of those drove it. I could be wrong. It's also a hatch which were as rare as hens teeth when originally sold here so I'd even be suspicious of the "It's an Irish car claim"

The only problem is.......if you can kill an avensis there is nowhere left to go:pac:

The hatchback versions were sold new here afaik. That one is the pre-facelift though with the older engine.

The more I look at that Avensis the more I see wrong. Wind up rear windows with leather. Sat Nav with basic aircon? Black sat nav with silver trim around the gear knob. Gear surround falling aprt (the 200k mile one I have outside is perfect), no leather steering wheel.

Be careful what you say, you could be selling it next week :pac:

Its prefacelift with the right lights btw.
Alloys are off a uk model, leather looks like taxi leather tbh but could be genuine too.
Bluetooth is toyota, can't see the satnav but it doesn't look genuine

Car is probably a ball anyway.

    +1

I've had a bangernomics Renault sent my way.

I'm going to look on Friday. It's an option albeit one I'm reluctant to take again. It'll certainly test of my motoring balls and sense of humour are still in place!

Not a thing. I haven't time to look this week and being honest my enthusiasm is lacking.

I'll give you a go in my Cooper S. If that doesn't give ya a stir i don't know what will!

Or get a big V8. I had a e38 735i and by god did it feel good to drive (except the frequent fuel stops).

I have an option on an E46 330Ci but I fear it would cripple me.

There's a few available on DD with 2.0 on the logbook ;)

Go for it, the e46 in 3.0 guise is quite a machine

Mini is in Cork, 735 got sent off to Lithuania. It was a fantastic car, still in great condition for a 1996 model, but road tax as always meant it wasn't something i could sell in Ireland.

The 330ci would be a safe enough, not much goes wrong with them.

Theres a thread up on E39 5 series at the moment "E39 530ds" - and some of the contributors to it that own or have owned E39 seem to be off the view that these just aren't selling any more due to tax and fuel etc.

Seem to be making small money in the likes of the bangernomics tread for what it is (a very very nice car).

Could be worth taking the hit on tax etc - if you get a very nice car as a result.

    Just a suggestion :)

    2007 BMW 320D.

What do I need to know about these? That's all the details I have for now. I've dispatched a trained monkey to investigate more.

    I've chosen well* so far.

I've no other details. Is that the one with the dodgy turbo or chain?

I've driven a few cars and all were snooze boxes. I'm waiting to hear from the credit union on Satirday. I forgot to submit pay slips with my application which has delayed the search a bit.

My aunty has a 318d 08 and its a nice car. The 320d is nicer again I'd imagine. But I'm fairly sure there the ones that give chain trouble the older 163bhp ones didn't the 177bhp did. I suppose if your buying it of a BMW garage with a 2 year warranty it's not too bad that's how she bought hers.

Last time I checked it had both. Unless that's the older m47 engined model.

Yes. I had a good think over the weekend. After many test drives I've decided a Mazda6 is the way forward. I had driven a Lexus IS220d on Saturday but even with a new Lexus warranty engine and many garauntees it'll be fine I'm not willing to take a chance. That and the gear ratios are terrible. I test drove an 2007 M-Spurt 320D on Saturday that had so many unanswered questions about it I ran like fcek away. In fact, it made my mind up.

I've placed a wanted ad on donedeal to maybe increase my chances of finding a good car. I'm also half interested to see if these things work although I'm expecting replies offering me everything I don't want.

Out of interest I'll report back if I get hits from it.

    Mazda6 wanted ad

Feedback on the wanted ad would be appreciated. I'm interested to see if these things work or not.

I'm assuming it will get more hits where it is. Even the wanted section on adverts gets little traffic
