Yes but you're not really looking for hits, you're looking for someone selling a mazda6 that has one not on donedeal (otherwise you'd see their ad, right?) to see your ad. I don't think they'd think to look for a wanted ad in the for sale section? These are people looking for wanted ads are they not?

:confused:Preference will be given to garage cars with a full 12 months warranty and which are 1 owners being sold by the original owner.

I don't understand this bit. You say you want a 1 owner car being sold from a garage yet then you say you want a car being sold by the original owner?

I know where you're coming from but I'm hoping to get people that are looking through ads to see what they should price theirs at etc.

My experience of wanted ads in wanted sections is that they get no traffic from anyone.

No. It's pretty clear if you read it, preference is given to garage cars with 12 months warranty or 1 owner cars being sold by their owners.

Edit: actually I've worded that badly. Thanks

No by saying it has to be one owner, pref dealer etc, eg. there might be a cracking 2 owner one on private sale but your ad seems a tad demanding.

    Ah I see.

I've already edited the 1 owner bit to address that as it's an obvious point I should have realised. I've no issue with the private owner cars (more editing required).

The rest is pretty demanding as I all but expect to have an email offering me a diesel estate with 100k miles on it in rough condition with no service history which in the owners eyes is a MINTER.

I'm just trying to be clear, a rare thing on donedeal ads :)

Also a quick look at the donedeal wanted ads reveals they are cash for cars offers like you see on traffic lights.

I'm reluctant. The 6's have a habit of rusting and I'd rather avoid UK imports for that reason. Obviously if someone had it and knew it was rust free I'd happily check it out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

You quote miles in your ad. Would be more logical to have kms if its irish cars you want

No harm in quoting whatever equivalent uk spec is the same as what you want (TS or whatever)

Ah miles, obvious I know but I've never owned a car with KM clocks so never even thought of it :o

I'm not overly familiar with UK spec.

If someone is could they tell me the mid to high spec levels?

IIRC I should be looking for a TS, TS2 and Sport?

I've seen plenty of rusty Irish ones too tbh. The rust on many Irish examples seems to be confined to the underbody though, where as plenty of Uk examples tend to have rust in the arches as well.

I've been lead to believe that the rust proofing on the facelift cars was a lot better. Now I did look at one over the weekend that had rust however this was due to the numerous dents not being fixed properly.

I'm happy to rust proof the underside of any car I buy over the course of the winter to help avoid issues.

I don't know I think they all had the same rust protection. I think it has a lot to do with the quality of metal as well. The rust issues doesn't just effect mazda 6's, it effects mazdas models across the board and is a problem that goes back to the 323, 626 era.

For the best chance of a rust free example go as new as possible Imo. These cars can look perfect on top but can be as rotten as a pear underneath so have a good look underneath.

Also you would be right to rust proof the 6 you buy. That should keep it good for years:)

Here is a newer shape 6 with slightly more mileage than you stated but it's still average for the year and not an issue on these cars. Advert says it has a full service history too and long NCT:

I hear ya - but it might be possible to pick up a nice one through an owners club type forum.

Unfortunately these are most likely to be UK based - but at least you can look up at the cars for sale from an owners club from the comfort of your armchair - and make a judgement call that a particular example might be worth looking at.

Also - Ive never being on a Mazda forum - but on other forums ive seen for specific makes of car - you often find that theres a a helpful expert types - mechanics at main dealers/specialists etc etc on the forum.

If such people exist on Mazda forums - then one of those might be able to check any out promising examples that are for sale in the UK.

I know you would prefer an Irish car which makes sense - but all the above is worth noting if you can't find the car you want over here.

    All imo.

    Right:

Tomorrow morning at 9:30 I'll be test driving this

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mazda/Mazda6/1.8-4DR-/37113759600001360/advert?channel=CARS

6 months warranty, full service history with the garage and 1 owner. The rear bumper needs a respray and there is a small scratch on the rear quarter panel.

I test drove this earlier and really really liked it but at the back of my head I have a nagging feeling it would break in my possession and leave me with a MASSIVE bill. I also consider it seriously expensive however the garage were offering the kitchen sink in terms of prep work.........well they would be at that price.

Any feedback, thoughts or things to watch out for would be great.

The mazda is obviously the safe bet .

If I bought that, the very next week I'd see a newer model one for the same money and regret it...

Give your track record you need to ignore the Merc.

Funnily enough while I love to drive the newer model I prefer the look of the older one. It has a more lean look to it which I like. While it is certainly the safer bet they're entertaining to drive from what I've found. So safer doesn't seem to mean boring.

As regards the price it's about €5k and still taxed until the end of March.

The scuffs on the bumper near the boot opening shot a lack of care. And with the quarter panel too it will certainly look that way.

The black bits mean the paints gone, but the other mark means it needs spraying anyway. They're clear enough in the photos.

For what it is worth I had 3 new Mazda cars in my motoring lifetime. All were 100 per cent reliable.

I have never owned a Mercedes, even though I was tempted by a new C model, but bought another Mazda instead. Just my experience!:)

The rear bumper issues don't bother me that much and as it's being resprayed before the car is sold I'm happy enough with that.

In terms of the car not being looked after it was service by the garage on time everytime. How I know that is the garage emailed me the service history in a pdf.

All I said was looks rough with the bumper. Mechanically they are tough. Low miles and history behind it is hard to find in this country so bodes well with your luck:)

I know what you're getting at. It does look a bit rough but from the ad and from speaking to them I'm happy enough to view it. The price caught my eye and when I saw the rest I was happy enough to go look at it.

Other than that I might just buy a cheap car to drive until something better comes along.

Pictures of the mazda aren't the best but from what im seeing, I don't think bar the bumper that the car is in that bad a condition at all. Bumper could have been a scuff from another driver. The mark on the quarter panel cant be seen so that could be the more interesting factor

Only other thing I might have some issues with is the tow on the back, granted could just be a "parking sensor"

The tow bar and scuffs on the back bumper are probably an indication it was doing a bit of towing.

What a waste of a day.

    Er, no.

Some muppet put a dent in the door of our Saab whilst parked. How is that lack of care on, say, our part?

I think it's the sellers lack of care when putting in and taking stuff out of the boot is what was meant rather than what you are on about.

Not surprised, this summer I went to see few Mazda 6's and drove 150 kilometers to Carlow to see one and maybe even buy it because it looked decent on photos but when I arrived there it was neglected, few light scrapes on the doors, bad alloy wheels, and quite a few rusty stone chips on the bonnet. Interior was as well quite neglected in my opinion and disappointment.

Secondhand car market in Ireland is really gone to the dogs, it seems it's really hard to find decent well maintained secondhand car that is not vastly overpriced. :o

The area of the marks was the key point of the post I think. A dent in the door is a different matter.

The scuffs on the Mazda were obviously inflicted by the owner of the car on the bumper at the boot opening due to carelessly loading/unloading the boot.

I certainly make sure to avoid the paintwork putting anything in my boot. It's not that bit an effort when loading or unloading. If someone doesn't care then what else don't they care about? With the quarter panel marked it would make a car look rough.

A door ding is different. There are idiots everywhere. I try to parallel Park, if the car parks empty I have no hesitation taking two spaces or if I know it will be very busy I'll take herselfs car. Her car could be spoken off in the first part of this post. Her lack of care for it is slowly turning it into a rough looking motor too.
