Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Okay, so not necessarily bargains per se, but best price on ssds at the moment perhaps?

    Crucial CT128M4SSD2 128GB M4 SATA III 6Gb/s MLC 2.5 Inch Internal SSD @ €98
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004W2JKZI/

Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive @ €91
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E391KA8/

Crucial M4s seem to have the best rep but Samsungs are good too.

Throw in €3.50 then on top for using parcel motel. ;)

Not a BA. those prices are about the norm. Definitely not worth it at this stage, the 256GB drives is the only logical option and for not a horrendous amount more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭quarryman

and for not a horrendous amount more.

eh, they're more than double the price.

128GB seems like value for money using it just as an OS drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,133 ✭✭✭GottaGetGatt

I put the exact same Crucial M4 into my Laptop which i originally bought in 2007 and using it for the OS.From start up to browsing the web is about 30-40 seconds.Cant fault it.Heard good things about the Samsung one as well.

Listen carefully - I'm only going to say this once:

The Recertified as New or Newly Overhauled SSDs are returned to OCZ for various reasons by end users or System Integrators and Distributors. All returned drives are very carefully tested by OCZ and repaired, if necessary. OCZ also has installed the latest firmware and inserted the SSDs in retail packaging. The quality of the SSD is as new and the warranty is 12 months.

    Not your ornery onager

I was going to post this earlier, then started thinking it must be a misprice. But if anyone fancies finding out, no harm will be done. Either no money will be taken, or they'll refund you immediately when they notice it (if it is a misprice).

    Crucial 480GB mSata - £159.29 (€188)

It has been dropping in price the last couple of days. Yesterday it was higher. So if it is a misprice, it would seem to be on purpose, if that makes sense. 1-2 months to deliver.

    What's going on here.. :confused::confused:

http://www.amazon.es/dp/B00BQ8RHMO/ - None in stock at the moment.

    and get something like this.

The OCZ drives fail in crazy ways. And OCZ refuses to admit they are faulty. We have some that just magically drop out of the bios. The only way to get them back is to power off for a few minutes. They'll then work fine for another while until it happens again. As they can work for days or weeks between failures, OCZ says they are perfectly fine.
Never experienced anything similar with the intel drives.

I had a bit written out, but there's a guide here that explains it better.
Your laptop would be so much faster if you replaced your hard drive with an SSD , often three times faster on the tasks that matter most: opening apps, copying files and multitasking.

Many companies/sellers will not post to Ireland, or if they do they charge astronomical prices and will offer free UK delivery.
E.G. Sellers on Ebay, Free UK delivery, P+P to Ireland €15. So, using Parcel Motel P+P only comes to €3.50.

Some Companies can not post to Ireland/Europe from the UK as they have not paid the EU WEEE tax.
E.G. Ebuyers - They don't/can't deliver to Ireland, but they can deliver to Parcel Motel.

    830 - 256GB (kit with transfer cable and Magician software) @ 135.41£

    or

    840 evo - 250GB @ 134.99£

I read about SLC, MLC & TLC here: http://www.flashbay.com/support/faq/slc-mlc-usb-flash-drives

    Usage:
working with images, using win7 , i5, 4GB ram -dell machine

I will remove 500GB seagate from the machine and sell it or keep it as storage (thus sable from 830 might be handy), but a lot of good reviews about 840 evo out there.)

they both seems to be MLC. which one to go for?

I have a macbook pro and recently bought the samsung 840 evo 120gb,
I also bought a box and made it an external drive.

Literally can not fault it for anything.

Sorely tempted to get a second one but just a heads up for anyone in the market for their 1st SSD.

The 120 GB Samsung I mentioned in the OP, is now down to a very respectable £65.40

Am i missing something here? Once added to my basket, I get the normal free super saver delivery option to Ireland. It's fullfilled by amazon.

So the crucial m500 is at £95.99 again. I know it's a little slower, but the MLC nand used will supposedly last longer than the TLC nand used in the samsung evo.

Should I just go for it? Someone talk me out of it!

Screw it, bought it! :D The difference in performance between it and the evo, doesn't justify the £20 difference in price.

Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E391KA8/

Sterling is now back to 80p for €1 too.
So throw in €3.50 for parcel motel and it is quite a nice deal.

 what do you mean "back" to 80p. It was at 85p in Dec. The pound has strengthened.

Good deal anyway. Picked up the 250GB version @ 91 GBP.

@maik3n The GBP was never at 77 or 78p in the last year. In fact it was the opposite. It touched 87p

hehe, it WAS at 85p. Over the past year it had slowly been creeping DOWN, 77/78p and the trend wasn't looking too good for the future.

So it's a nice surprise to see it back up at 80p.
