Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

OK everyone I am 18. I have got my GNIB card in 2011. When Can I apply for natrulization?

    What does this exactly mean?
People applying for naturalisation have to have had one year's continuous residence in the State prior to their application and then a total of four years' reckonable residence during the previous eight years. After naturalisation, you have to intend living in the State.

GNIB card by itself gives no rights to apply for naturlisation. What is important is your permission in the state, for example if the permission is Stamp 2 or a permission to apply for Asylum then no right to apply for naturlisation. If it is a stamp 0, 1 3 or 4 then 5 years post the letter confirming your permission (it was till a recent case the date the permission was put in passport) you can apply.

So assuming you have the correct permission, assuming you had no permission before 2011 then it will be 2016 before you can apply. Unless application is based on marriage then it's 3 years.

The highlighted bit simply says you must have 12 months permission immediately prior to application in the state, plus 4 years which can be over the last 8 years. Example legal residence for 4 years from 2000 to 2004 then moved and came back legally in 2007 and 12 months legal, so 1 year prior plus 4 in previous 8 years total 5, fine.
