Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I used to be able to do that; haven't tried it recently - the main trick was in visualising one's bottom as enormous, as I remember.
No, this one happens when I get off the bike, prepare to tie it up and allow my attention to lapse for a moment, when it whips its head around and gives me a savage nip on the leg; my legs are covered with bruises from the little swine.

Same as myself, I'd be afraid to do it now, I'd have to wait until I'm sure there's nobody around to laugh when the inevitable happens.

As a kid I could fly around corners and pop down kerbs and paths without second thought.

I made the usual mistake after this service. Going from having very little braking power, to suddenly being able to stop on a penny, I got to the car park gate when leaving the office yesterday, and very nearly catapulted myself over the handlebars.

Interesting piece on Copenhagen's approach to city cycling, lots of facts and figures:

    http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2014/oct/16/copenhagen-cycling-innovation-lycra-louts-green-wave-bike-bridges

    Sample:
If you want to see improved behaviour among cyclists, just build best-practice infrastructure for them – separate bikes from pedestrians and cars and give them their own space in the urban landscape. Copenhagen has the world’s best-behaved cyclists: only 7% bend or break a traffic law and only 1% do something like run a red light or ride on the pavement. Good design improves behaviour.

    And:
The cost of 1km of cycle track is paid off in five years by the health benefits of users getting more exercise. Car traffic drops by 10% on these stretches and cycling increases by 20%. The 41% of the population who arrive at work or school by bike contribute a whopping €235m (£185m) a year to the public coffers.

Having visited Copenhagen earlier this year and adopting the attitude of if you can't beat them, join them, crossing the road as a pedestrian means finding gaps between rows of bikes and also trying to remember where in relation to some Street furniture you parked your bike.

Somewhere in Dublin there's a scobe looking at those pics and going: "SCORE".

These days I may give it "socks" on the bike for segments (I'm sh1te though)

But back in the day it was giving it "socks" on the dance floor :D

On a night "off" youtube is the gift that keeps on giving.

Way out West and Full Tilt were just the best at remixing!

Spent the day at a birthday party for my 6 yr old twins.
30 kids. Sweet jebus I need Valium or something.
Bottle of gin about to be opened.

Without being funny, it is very difficult to ascertain whether so,em kids are simply poorly behaved or are somewhere on the autisic spectrum.

I don't know how primary school teachers and crèche workers cope - the need their heads examined.

Looking to upgrade my winter bike to 5800 11 speed. The problem is I have a set of R501 wheels. I know they're cheap but I don't really want to pick up a new set of wheels as they're only a month old. Would it possible to fit the 11 speed on or would I need a new freehub?

It's worse than that - not only will you not get an 11sp cassette on your existing freehub, the freehub cannot even be replaced with an 11sp compatible one.

I hope someone comes along and proves me wrong.

Unfortunately there is no way to adapt or change the freehub on that particular wheel to 11speed.

Maybe sell on the wheels and get a set of these newer 11 speed model at 89euro+ postage

Today I became aware that there are actually people who sit down and plan "spins" with the sole intentions of getting KOMs. Even if it means going in circles and back on yourself.

Impressive in some ways, weird in others.

I wonder whether I've lost my sole KOM along the Royal Canal yet...the main reason I got it was because not even the segment creator had ridden it.

When KOMs are created all old rides that passed through the segment are added. Don't think you can create a segment without having cycled it. It can take a while before it goes through all the old info though.

Lol noticed that myself recently. Also noticed a few friends from another club spend a lot of time riding same routes then slagging each other when they swap a KOM between them. One 5k stretch has the top 8 from the same club but few would be considered exceptionally strong, had a good bit of banter when out with them recently

You can create a segment from someone else's ride. It is not necessary for you to have ridden it.

Someone who works near me set up a load of segments for running around my area.

I saw that as a challenge to my masculinity and a sleight on my ability to be able to provide for my family. So I spent about a week planning runs on which I would hit his segments when I was nicely warmed up in order to be the leader on them.

I grabbed all apart from 2, then I lost interest when he fecked off to the Cayman Island I think it was from looking at his Strava activity.

I'm out of peak fitness as the moment but I will go for them again once I'm back on track. He can keep his Cayman Island activities.

To expand a tad, this fella got 12 KOMs on Saturday and 14 or so on Sunday. Well planned, in fairness.

I think I have seen him mentioned on here before and he does it to advertise his business, possibly.

FFS - all those segments 1-2 mins or less, many just a few hundred metres. Who creates such short segments?
Must go out an find a few bumps in the road in the locality.

It's no different than creating a segment on one of your own rides. Obviously you need to find a ride that goes through the start and end point of the proposed segment.

Can start by looking for a segment that is either part of the one you want or includes it in its entirity using teh segment explore function. Then look at the leaderboard and try and find a ride from it that includes the entire segment. You then simply make a segment from that ride

Strava has informed me that I've lost a KOM in the USA that I didn't know I had. The segment must have been created after I had ridden it.

(Reclaiming it might be a bit awkward and costly. I think I'll let it go! :pac:)

All this talk of Strava had me checking my own, I've ignored it since I lost one to someone on a particularly windy day where they didn't have to start from the light so was in a huff, but apparently I have another... which is always the windiest bit of my spins, so doesn't count.
