Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone know where I can get silicone gripper strips to sow onto my jersey which keeps riding up on my back. Cheers.

I looked at this before but abandoned the idea because, as gadetra has said, the sewing bit is apparently a nightmare. I did source the grippers on line here and here though if you are feeling brave (or yer ma is a wiz on the old sewing machine).
    gadetra wrote: »
Very difficult thing to replace. Unless you're gonna hand sew it, you need a teflon foot for your machine. They're put with heat, so you can't replace it as such. You can buy good hold-ups, cut the gripper off, and sew that on but it won't last, they never do  It might prolong the grippy life of your jersey. When sewing it on, don't go with a running stitch, zig zag it because it has to stretch and move.

While I often marvel at the cycle-related knowledge of some people on this forum, gadetra's knowledge of haberdashery and fabrics never ceases to amaze me!

Hmm, sounds too much like Skynet. What if they start communicating with each other and refuse to open?

'While you're off and riding (with the lock onboard), Skylock's accelerometers will feel it if you have an accident, and its app will ask you if you're okay. If you don't respond within a certain number of seconds it will automatically call emergency responders and give them your position. Pretty amazing.'

So many possibilities for things to go wrong...What happens if you've just left your phone at home and so can't respond to your locks questioning? :pac:

My phone (Galaxy S5) has an emergency function that's quite fun. You add emergency contact numbers, and if you signal an emergency (by pressing the power button three times) it records audio, takes pictures using front and back cameras, and sends it all to your contact.

Unfortunately I've had at least one false positive caused by in-pocket button pressing. Didn't go down very well.

I've a green boards jersey which needs a new zip and a pink boards bibshorts which needs a tear repaired. Can I have a quote*?

    * Not "Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." as I have that one already.

I saw two lads heading towards the airport today heavily laden with panniers and a large folded cardboard box strapped to each bike. I was envious! :)

(Just wondering - whenever I take the bike abroad, the various airlines I've flown with alway state that a bike box or bike bag must be used. How do some cyclists get away with cardboard?)

I saw a few bike boxes in the airport this morning and also bumped into a Boardsie.
Sadly only dropping people off, not traveling.:(

Can't understand how anyone could trust a cardboard box to protect their bike from baggage handlers. My box gets some major knocks every time I travel and I'd hate to see how a piece of cardboard would stand up to the same abuse.

Not much choice if touring - especially if returning from a different airport so no chance of even leaving a box in left luggage.

It's possible they treat cardboard more gently.

That's over 3 months and represents only an estimated 38% of the "market" - suggesting they believe it's running at getting on for 200,000 a year. The fact they've caught a "proper" retailer "blending" them in with gnuine stock is a bit worrying.

Didn't think of that and it's logistics. If touring I'd say they were on steel or alu bikes which should stand up to more heavy handedness than a carbon rig.
I'd hope a cardboard box is treated a little better.

Saw some very impressive bags in Dubai and the internal protection was unreal. I just like that extra level of protection from a hard case.

I used a box once while two friends used bags. Mine was left behind on both legs while theirs were fine. Was sent over on flight 12 hours later, but in return leg it was 48 hours. We're convinced it was cos there's could be squeezed on while mine was too bulky and solid.

    Random question

Do pro cyclists get a brand new pair of shorts before the start of a stage race each day. Or do they reuse and recycle?

    Presume shoes are reused

Probably not. The team buses have washing machines. The hotels too.

Yeah they really do have washing machines, they definitely wash and reuse. Some skinsuits are single-use only though, Tony Martin has abrasive tape on his saddle to keep him held in place so he can't use them again.

Sean Kelly was often forced to hand wash his kit in the hand basin of his hotel each night when he was at his peak.

Why you would even need a dryer when you have a bus with awning is beyond me. Pure decadence!

A friend and I had plans to convert an older CIE bus, one of the really big ones to a home and had enough space to store an MG Sprite underneath. However, it never came to be, though I'm kinda of glad not be living like a Levellers fan.
