Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i came past there on the luas this morning. a simple fix (for safety rather than convenience) would be one of those signs indicating the path, white arrow on a blue background, attached to the railing.

That's a very nice place to locate a barrier isn't it..and to anyone who's gone to trouble of entering the cyclepath to that point a clear go swivel message to the bike user..go and take you chances on the road again my friend...

Wait I typed my response too soon and I just realized the option there is to cross the railway/Luas line...its not very evident at all and I see why you say the easier option is just to provide a direction arrow sign for any cyclist who happens to find themselves on that route.

I nearly crashed into this barrier in the link below before, I was flying along in the dark and although I saw the blue sign the barrier was hard to see, I was not on the lookout for any barrier and not paying much attention.

The reddish paving after it appeared to be a pedestrian crossing, like you might see at bus stops, so I thought it was going to continue on and was a yeild stop.

That's one particular cycle lane that I never use and I cycle around there several times a week. Horrible design and even when you get to the junction after it you are just left on the footpath with nowhere to go...

You'd expect the injury to be a bit messier with a chainring.

disc brakes are usually on the left, yeah? so you'd usually expect an injury from behind, caused by a component on the left hand side of another bike, to be on the right leg; and his own rear brake disc wouldn't have had a clean slice at his leg as the seatstay and chainstay would have prevented it.
seems to make more sense that a left leg injury like that would have come from a right mounted chainwheel, unless my reasoning is faulty.

I was just having a read of this very short piece of legislation, which seems very short-sighted.

As I understand it, the previous law outlawed 'holding' a mobile phone. But that meant that when it was in a handsfree cradle, people could still type out text messages and the like. So this law outlaws that.

But it restricts it to "an SMS, an MMS message and an email". Which seems very short-sighted and restrictive. So I can send a WhatsApp or a Viber message, or a boards PM, or a Facebook message, etc. from my handsfree phone in my car, and it's not technically illegal?

I think it depends on the reading. It says that a text message includes an SMS, MMS or email. but doesn't specifically limit the definition to SMS, MMS or email. It also says "“send a text message” includes compose and type a text message, but does not include anything done without touching the mobile phone". There is no definition of what a text message is, but you could argue that any message composed of text is a text message, so whatsapp or viber text messages are out, but there is nothing to stop you using snapchat to send a picture as it doesn't use mms or sms or require text or email.

Maybe my understanding of how to read it is wrong, but, it is quite ambiguous, which I would not have considered a good thing when writing legislation.

Nibali is a champ and he has won all of his big races riding from the front like a boss.

His main opponents crashed - one because he can't ride a bike with any grace whatsoever and one because maybe Nibalis lead forced him to taking risks.
That is what leading from the front does - it outs others in the backfoot.

He took risks and they paid off, others took risks and they didn't.

Btw - I have a great deal of doubt that Froome was injured enough to warrant a dnf. Many other riders have finished and performed admirably thru injury.
Bernie Eisel was interviewed at end of final stage. He said that CF retired due to his morale or nerves - he didn't mention serious injury.

The shark is a champ. End of.
In every major race there will be an event. In many GTs these are crashes. Yes they play a part in the final result but they do not annul that result.

He won by default, imo that's the only way he can/will beat Froome/Contador. Don't get me wrong I love his riding I just think he's one tier below those 2 in ability.

    I'm with Rok on this.
I think Froome bottled it. He rides like bleeding scarecrow and would have went arse over tit on wet muddy cobbles.
Nibali took the Tour by the balls and forced mistakes. Every stage he was at the front with almost all of his team.
When Froome crashed on a wet cobbled stage he was mid peleton.

To be fair, he didn't look one tier below them when he beat froome in tirreno adriatico last year. I know it's only one race but he went on to dominate that years Giro, when froome was doing the same in races before and after the tirreno, (i think it was quatar, possibly yemen... the hilly one in the middle east when froome beat contador ....)

Edit: tour of oman, just googled it

+1, you race against the people who turn up, if you win you're a champion, Nibali is a great rider who won by being the best. I would have loved to see him and Froome and Contador fight it out, but am far from convinced either of the others could have recouped the 2 and a half minutes Nibali pulled out on the cobbles.
