I got my fibre install with e vision today. I am getting 30mb download & 20mb upload. Ping 15-20ms

It is a 50mb line but 20mb is reserved for e vision.
Very happy with it so far

I rang Eircom and even tho the rep was at my door promising 50Mb to start with on eFibre, it's a no go atm for Coneyboro apparently. So what the hell they had 3 - 4 reps going around the entire estate for is beyond me.

dont forget if you are upgrading and do a bit of downloading, that eircom have a 3 strikes and your banned rule with downloads. think its still in place anyways. I dont do that myself.. but worth bearing in mind.

    No update in Coneyboro yet.

I got an email from Eircom about two weeks ago saying "eFibre is now in our area"
I rang them and they said it was a communication error, apparently thousands of customers received that email that shouldn't have

Eircom site checker still says "eFibre is available in your area but your address is not yet enabled."

  • Registered Users Posts: 884 ✭✭✭Cork Skate

You would think they would be looking to enable it fairly soon, as its a fairly big estate. UPC Rep is the fella i want to see, they are streets ahead of everyone else if its all available.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,255 ✭✭✭Yawns

UPC don't use Eircom's lines tho or has that changed?

Afaik UPC run their own fibre network in the larges towns and urban areas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,861 ✭✭✭✭L1011

UPC is only available on their own cable television network; not over the Eircom VDSL network so Eircom rolling out VDSL won't change anything. If UPC have an analogue cable system (not MMDS) in Athy they will likely upgrade it to have broadband eventually.

  • Registered Users Posts: 884 ✭✭✭Cork Skate

When I spoke to them last they said it will eventually come but not in the near future. Wanting to see the UPC rep was really just wishful thinking by me.

yeah when I rang them about it a month ago, I was told it could be up to 18 months. So more likely 4 years before they get it here. Might try ringing them a few times to annoy them and see if it can't be pushed through a bit quicker, tho I really doubt it will matter a damn bit. Oh well, one can only hope.

    ATY1_009
Fibre Build commenced - completion work is in progress

The above is the new box that is in our estate Yawns and PabloD.

    from another post elsewhere
They are listed as XXX1_EXX whereas the VDSL street cabinets are listed as XXX1_XXX. Most larger towns have them listed as planned.

Checked my land line with Eircom on-line and status has finally changed
    We have checked ***-*******
You are in an eFibre enabled area

Although eFibre is meant to be up to 100Mb it also stated:
You can get a maximum of 50Mb download speed
must be line quality or exchange distance related

It should be a free upgrade from NGB but Eircom call me with offers every 6 months so will wait and see what they offer on this
Fingers crossed it starts getting implemented soon

Just checked vf and eircon. Thankfully 10ft distance and its showing the same for me.
Just checked speed test. And down is same but upload has already doubled to 1mb.
Must msg vf and get them to upgrade speed. Eircon should do it also.

Contacted Vodafone today. This was their reply when I asked to up my speed to the max I could get on my contract.
I have checked your exchange and Fibre will be available for you on the 11/02/14. On this date you can call our Fibre team who can order this for you.

    Their number is 1800805014

Distance from the cabinet is the critical issue with VDSL - you can be hugely far from the exchange once the cabinet is nearby. These are the dark green new cabinets with the pitched roof and the huge hinge/lock on the front.

Waiting to hear back from Eircom myself, should know their deal tomorrow.

Shouldn't be too bad so, cabinet is just around the corner about 200mtrs
More curious to see what Upload speed we'll get with it - just about getting half a mb up

Looks like there are no "offers" for existing customers

Offer of €33 a month only for new customers (for 1st 6 months)

Existing customers basically do a straight swap up to eFibre
(Eircom engineer calls out and sets up eFibre and installs a new eFibre modem)

Installed free, but for a cost .... They did a 'straight swap' for my dad as well and charged him for everything, having been with them for as long as I can remember. It was all done while I was on holidays and I had no clue it was going on. I'd normally look after these things for him.
