Fight should be stopped for his safety. He could take a bad punch while wiping his eyes

Junior has a hell of a chin and big heart.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,399 ✭✭✭sonic85

juniors left eye is nearly fully shut

Junior no longer in the white shorts.

Anyone notice most of gains right hooks are hitting the neck?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,399 ✭✭✭sonic85

I would've called that a bit sooner - JDS took a lot of damage

dana will be delighted with that fight and the Melendez sanchez fight earlier - real blood and guts stuff

    cain looks grand and fresh

Seen a few that hit his neck/chin area but from the look of juniors face a good few landed there too he looks like he got beaten up by a shovel

Melendez sanchez fight of the century now. that's a strong statement

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Cain is untouchable unless he gets caught by a bomb.

Hes just so well rounded and his cardio is so good its almost cheating.

Talk about hyperbole over the Sanchez/Melendez fight. Sanchez is blessed with his chin because he hasn't much else going on these days. Melendez got goaded into a scrap when he had it all wrapped up - he's several levels above Sanchez.

Rogan saying the main event was the best heavyweight fight ever...Jesus Christ, he's in a positive place tonight.

As a JDS fan that was tough to watch at times, mans got some heart though.
    Cain is just relentless

    Felt like Rocky 3
    1.20*

exactly. himself and dana were going way over the top with the praise

    Good card overall.
Sanchez must take Angel dust before be fights the guy is a freak. Thought he won it with that uppercut at the end.
Daniel Cormier is a good fighter but boring as hell.
Gonzaga is awesome. The most improved heavyweight in the division

Really love Cigano but he's simply second best in the HW division.

ps: Was Rogan joking about big country dropping down to LHW?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,216 ✭✭✭Kur4mA

These are unbelievable. Cain seriously is a freaky beast. Also, this 1st pic is crazy looking... Junior has some chin (neck?!) on him. This would have dropped A LOT of other guys in the HW division.

usually don't mind Joe Rogans commentary but he pissed me off in the cain fight. would not stfu about junior no matter what cain did. Cain would land a flurry of punches and he'd still be talking about a jab junior landed. muppet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,913 ✭✭✭JacksonHeightsOwn

Will Junior still beat the klitschkos up? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

Cain has to be one of the fittest men in the world.

He's a better fighter no doubt about it and he'll finish everyone else he fights. Junior is heroically tough to be fair. Nobody else at HW would withstand his onslaught for 5 rounds no way in hell.

He's like the jack-hammer attachment for a JCB that you see used to demolish buildings... it ain't pretty but it ain't stoppable.

Melendez V Sanchez was so good. Was on the edge of my seat throughout. Brilliant fight.

Watching Nelson taunt Cormier in the last minute of the 3rd round as if he was winning the fight was quite pathetic.

Dos Santos has some chin. The lad knows how to take some heavy hits. Good pressure fight from Velasquez.

Fight of the night? Yes. But best fight ever? It's not even the best fight off the year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 774 ✭✭✭stealinhorses

Melendez vs Sanchez was great, thought Diego KO'd him in the third with that uppercut! Great holy sh*t moment.

Main event was predictable but also really weird. It seemed like everything was in slow motion, especially when JDS fell out of that guillotine late in the fight.

Cain vs Werdum will be more competitive I'd say, Fabricio is nasty on the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Dont think anyone else will make it through 5 rounds with Cain.
JDS just got so dominated he was made to look like a chump and he just destroys anyone else in the division.

Talk of Cormier vs Gus at the post fight press conference.

Melendez vs Pettis would be a cracking fight.

Anyone know why Dana referred to Tim Boetsch as a "union rep"?

Yee haaaawww Sanchez Melendez the best fight ive ever seen id say. Probably would have been the best card ive ever seen if there was a real good un after the diego fight but cormier/roy and JDS/Cain were unremarkable enough. Still probably the best card in recent memory.

    What a night of fights!!!

Dana said it after about Junior that he is too tough for his own good and I have to agree!! Don't like to see him taking so many blows!

Sanchez Melendez was a great fight to watch, I don't blame Rogan for getting over excited watching it from a few foot away. Melendez was really picking him apart until Sanchez connected with the uppercut. And fair play to Melendez for standing a banging in the 3rd, as someone said he could have things alot easier for himself.

Watching JDS on the fence was just weird... watch some of the slo-mos and compare Cains hand-movement when they break to how much JDS's moved. He didnt seem to concern himself with protecting himself and this is long before he near-gassed.

That said, I've been a Cainiac for a long time now :)

Sanchez vs Melendez... I dunno, it got interesting as it went on but it didnt really light my fire enough to start talking about fight of the year. Sanchez for all of his protestation got taken to school and short of a silly slip-up (which Melenedez almost gifted him at the end!) it was never really in doubt.

Big Country is not really at the races. He's like that character in a fighting game who moves slowly, has limited strikes but has one power move and everyone knows it.

    Fantastic night of fights.

Is it just me or was Dolloway robbed blind in the Boetsch fight? I maybe need to rewatch but at the time I gave all 3 rounds to Dolloway and was just praying for the judges to screw up and score it 29-28 so the point deduction would make it a draw.

Complete robbery I thought even with the point deducted,he was making a joke out of Boetsch how the judges gave it to him is a mystery.

Country Nelson had a tough task Cormier is an undefeated fighter but Roy offered nothing in the night never looked dangerous once you dont get in a brawl or drop your left hand your going to beat Nelson.

cain leagues ahead of junior and junior

Cain via stoppage, this time he gets JDS outa there

    Told ye :pac:

In all seriousness, nearly had a heart attack watchin main event. Even with Cain's dominance, JDS still landed some big shots. Cain just drowns you in pressure, must be hell to fght him. Rightly cemented his place as best UFC Heavy ever, he puts out welterweight stats with his pace, string of knockouts, cardio for days.

    Cain Velasquez
    Junior dos Santos
    Fabricio Werdum
    Daniel Cormier (ignore)
    Antonio Silva
    Josh Barnett
    Frank Mir
    Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (ignore)
    Travis Browne
    Gabriel Gonzaga

How the hell is Cain going to lose to any of these sub-Dos Santos guys seriously?

Werdum and Barnett have to be the only remotely interesting matches and he wins both of those with overwhelming violence... neither can stand with him, neither can take him down, neither have a tank to match his, neither are natural knockouters.... but they're just about sellable

I know the whole curse of the HW division forever is that we all say right this guys going to win for years.. and then....ok no seriously this guy is going to win for years ...but this time it's almost guaranteed Cain will retain that belt for at least 3 or 4 years and he only gets better while he's doing it!

They sure as hell can't sell another JDS match with Cain for the foreseeable future... well.. at least until Cain has dismantled

    Barnett,
    Werdum,
Overeem (just to silence any doubters and it would sell),
    Browne (punchers chance)
then we're into guys like Shaub? Miocic? (and that's pushin it)

Hunt or Mir or nog or Silva makes no sense at all.

How does he lose in the foreseeable years ahead?...he doesn't

He's 31 so he's razor sharp for next 5 years easily

Only a massively improved JDS offers a decent-ish punchers chance 2 years down the road .... but is that sellable anymore?

Here's the top 100 ! He wrecks them all... which prospect can even be considered a future challenge?

    http://www.tapology.com/rankings/current-top-ten-heavyweight-mma-fighters-265-pounds

Cain Valasquez is actually unbeatable, moreso than Jones at LHW or GSP at WW.
He's now the most dominant MMA fighter on earth.

I would love to see a scientific team test and analyze his cardio ability, lactic acid tolerance, resting heart rate, metabolism and VO2 max etc and show exactly how much more conditioned this guy is.. compared to every other HW MMA fighter ever in history.

I cringe to think how people are going to attempt argue that Werdum and Barnett have more than a complete hail mary submission chance.

    BelikeNutella

I completely agree with you 100% however the only argument here is the element of the unknown. Not too long ago the heavyweight division was made up of Big Nog, Frank Mir, a 45 year old Randy and Brock Lesbar. Then all of a sudden killers such as Shane Carwin, Cain and JDS emerge. Very frequently we've seen fighters look dominant and think they'll be champ for a long time only to have a few people explode onto the scene. But yes I hope they get their act together and start exploding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

yeah it is true that the curve for new HW prospects can go from nobody to UFC contender in about 18 months.. especially with NFL guys comin over and the Slavic countries pumpin out fighters to beat the band.

Gonzaga is a beast though isn't he? anybody who underestimates him gets laid out flat!

Thing is though with this 'Age of Cain' beginning now there are some other deadly HW match ups below him, like a JDS Werdum rematch, Barnett v Werdum, Barnett v JDS... etc etc
there's a good 10 deadly match ups in the top tier! Nothing for Cain but loads for JDS, Werdum and Barnett!

Cain now has no perfect antagonist now at HW... there's just him and then the rest of the world now. His goal should be to stay healthy and win himself into the 'greatest MMA fighter of all time' argument which is about 5 wins down the road.

The question is: will Aldo, GSP or Jones lose before he does? I think most people would say yes!

Jones at HW has to be a totally defunct concept at this point. Things change so quickly in MMA it's mental.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭unknown13

Its impossible not to agree with Be Like Nutella. I can't see Cain loosing for the next few years. I even think that he convincingly beats Jones when he moves up. Jones will be dangerous early until Cain figures him and when that happens fight is going to be over and Cain remain champ.

Apart from the possibility that they allowed Overeem to eat Steroids for his dinner every morning and then gave him a shot, none of those matches even interest me. Werdum will be the last significant challenger and then Cain has nobody to touch him.

Daniel Cormier would be the only one who would interest me. Although even if that was possible in the first place, I still think Cain takes him!

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

The thing with Cormier is, he's sloppy. His punching is sloppy and while he's a good wrestler, I dont think he has much in the way of offence on the ground. Cain will pick him apart on their feet and as good as Cormiers cardio looked against Big Country, its not going to match up against Cains. Add in Cain's nasty Muay Thai kicks and knees and its not in the slightest bit pretty for Cormier.

Werdum will be more interesting because we might get to see an extended period of Cains ground game. JDS proved you cant beat Cain on his feet. If Cain can beat Werdum on the ground... then the HW division has to start worrying about second place.

I would describe Cormier as many things, but I'd never call him sloppy

When you compare his punching to JDS I think its fair to say he's not as crisp. "Sloppy" may be an overstatement tho' alright
