Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm sure this has been asked in the past...but here goes.
I don't have a smart tv but would like Netflix or similar.
I don't want a laptop connected to the TV and don't have a play station or the like.
So I was looking at getting Apple TV....€109 on apple website....had a look on adverts.ie and they are €150/€180/€200.... So what's the story???
Why is the new one cheaper?
Please somebody explain the ins and outs.
    Cheers.

The expensive ones are second gen, they can be jailbroken and have XBMC installed. The new one hasn't been jailbroken so you can only use what Apple give you.

Basically the previous generation of Apple TV (which looks identical) is still able to be jailbroken, which is why there's a huge demand for them. The Apple TV 3 is a better product, also it supports 1080p where the Apple TV 2 only supports 720p. It's just the fact they can be jailbroken and still are very similar to the newer model other than a few small differences that has them in such huge demand.

If your looking for a cheaper version of the ATV you could always buy refurbished. It's basically brand new, other than the box which is slightly different. It also comes with the 1 year Apple warranty and sells for €85 from Apple.

Of if it's mainly for Netflix you could look into getting a Google Chromecast, but it can be hard to get shipped to a Ireland since it's not officially being sold over here.

So what does a jail broken one give you over an un-jail broken one?

Pretty much only the ability to stream content from your media servers/laptops/pc etc.

If you don't have an iPhone or iPad I'd recommend grabbing a Chromecast from amazon. Especially if you're just looking for something for Netflix and the like.
