Bike for newbie

Hi. I did a sprint tri in August and I really enjoyed it. I was just glad to be able to finish it I was on a borrowed MTB and I found the cycling to be the most challenging part ☺️ I've been looking at events for next year that'll have 30-40km of cycling involved. The most I'll ever need to cycle in a day will be about 50km

I would also like to be able to cycle on these type of surfaces:

I'll never be in the first few finishers in an event - but I would like to be able to train on my own bike and get faster on the road. And to have a bike suitable for roads as well as paths. I can avail of the CTW scheme of €1000, maybe I could add €200 to that. I have a helmet - but no other gear, pump, shorts etc.

Have you thought about a cyclocross bike? Might suit your needs best

+1 on this. I can't open the links you posted in work but a cyclocross bike would best fit your requirements. You'd get a nice one for a grand too.

I like this one. It's just about on budget. I'll also have to get pedals, pump, shorts. I haven't found any reviews though. I hope to go to a shop soon to have a look and hopefully bring it for a spin.
