So sorry to hear that cyning :(.

My Little guy is just over a bad dose of Chicken Pox. We found the PoxClin mouse very good, he barely scratched and his scalp was covered in them. He had them everywhere even in his ear canals. We had to take him to the doc and she gave us Zovirax Medicine and an anti histamine medicine. His temps were really high and he was vomiting. He was so sick it broke my heart plus i had strep throat too so trying to take care of him while i was sick was tough, he was so uncomfortable, but we just kept him topped up on nurofen & calpol.

I've just had a quick read back through the posts and its somewhat relieving to know that i'm not alone here with my little fella constantly been sick, since January 2014 he has been on antibiotic after antibiotic, for ear infections, tonsillitis, chest infections, conjunctivitis, viral infections. Its heartbreaking to see him unwell when normally he is very active. I am constantly been told its just his age he will grow out of it. He just turned 2. He's still a very poor eater and we did have him at a consultant for that and we were told the same thing, he's fine he'll grow out of it!

Ah crap YH :( I find this constant sickness so frustrating. Hope he's ok... Are work understanding?

They're understanding to a point but I've been out alot. I texted this am and haven't had a reply..... lil guy comes first so they'll just have to accept it. I'm using my annual leave and not asking for any favours. What about you?

I started a brand new job in Jan: work 2.5 days: so if I'm out I just work a different day: they are amazing in fairness.

I HATE hearing they'll grow out of it. I have no doubt they will but it's so frustrating when they are on antibiotic after antibiotic.

I got the poxclin mousse: she had one right where the nappy hits so have orabase and vaseline mix on that one (amazing barrier cream for anyone prone to nappy rash). I had to get into the bath with her to convince her to get in: she was terrified of the colour the bath went with the oats in it. It really worked though she loved it!

The poor thing cyning, i really feel for you, but hopefully she will be over them soon enough, it took 3 days for all the spots to come out on my guy. Thankfully his little face didn't get too many, but his head, back, belly and bum were covered. But Thank God we're over them now.

Your job sounds very understanding cyning. My job is very understanding, i work with 3 lads and they all have kids so they no the story but in fairness my husband normally takes leave when our son is sick as he has more leave days a year than i do.

My MIL is quite sick since before Xmas and because the little guy has had infection after infection she hasn't been able to see him much, she started stem cell treatment today and is in hosp now for 4-6weeks, thank god for face time, he is her only grandchild and i actually think her not been able to see him is making her sicker if that even makes sense. It will be 2.5 months since she seen him in person when she finishes this treatment, please god he will be infection free and it will give her a boost just even to spend 30 mins with him.

That's so hard Elly: once we knew the other child in childminders had them we knew we couldn't see FIL for 21 days: and because the toddler has them but not the 1 year old so far, it will be another 21 days from the time her spots scab over to see if S gets them... So I'm hoping she gets them now because I don't think there's anyway she won't get them now. Anytime they get sick with anything contagious it's the same. It makes it doubly hard. My husband is an only child so they are the only grandkids too: I hope your mil is doing ok.

Only problem I have is I have a course tomorrow which is FETAC accredited and attendance is compulsory. Don't know what I'm going to do. Childminder will take them regardless (she has no other kids except the one who gave them the chickenpox!) but I hate leaving them when they are sick. Hubby can't get tomorrow off either he has a massive meeting and my mum is going away for the weekend.

Ick, just got a note home from the creche, some of the kids have lice. :( I'll have to treat her anyway just in case.

I'm getting itchy just thinking about it. Ick ick ick. Hope the lice treatment is not as disgusting smelling as it used to be.

Commiserations on the chicken pox, my friends kids got it on their eyeballs! It's a disaster. 5 more weeks to our chicken pox vaccine. We're nearly there.

We used poxciln recently, and putting oat flakes in a popsock and giving it a good swirl in the bathwater helped too. Our biggest problem was actually constipation because he was off his foods and didn't drink much, so his poos were sore - and moreso because he had spots in that area that hurt when he went too, so if they are poxy, keep an eye on their water intake.

We had a run of that last year, when he was nearly 2. It felt like every other day the creche were ringing me to pick him up over something or other. I got a baby probiotic to add to his milk after about 3 rounds of antibiotic and his sickness days did diminsh. It could have been coincidental, but I do think they helped.

+1 on the oatmeal, lifesaver! Our two had chickenpox at the same time, it was pretty horrible (and i was just back in work after maternity leave). :o

Our youngest is currently picking up everything going,; so far we had a chest infection, ear infection, tonsilitis and a tummy bug (the last three at the same time, the poor guy! Ended up in hospital cause he was screaming so much i thought there was something really really wrong.) the older one (3.5) hasnt been sick at all this year, they do seem to get more resilient!

Best of luck to all of ye, it'll pass!!!:)

I'm sitting here with eyes hanging out of my head while my 2 year old is hyper. He's been puking all evening, can't keep anything down. He's drinking some water but that all came back up 20 mins ago but he is flying form. Me on the other hand, I just want my bed! Hubby is in work! It's going to be a long night.

Oh god good luck! My 10 week old seems to have decided to drop a bottle. He's been doing 5 bottles at 9, 1, 4, 7 and 10. The last few days he's been going later and later (to 1030, then 11, 12 last night) and conking out after the 4th feed. I only copped tonight that he must be trying to drop a feed after he did 830/1/5/9 and conked out downstairs. It's now 1 o clock and he never woke up for his last feed! I tried a dream feed there and he took like 2oz before spitting it out. He's been sleeping the night for nearly four weeks now so I think we might just need to up the bottle size and drop to 4. I'm a bit concerned tho coz he has silent reflux and he's supposed to be eating small amounts often but he would literally scream the place down if we tried to take a bottle off him before he's finished!

Man my brain is melted with oz'a and times. I'm now in limbo trying to decide whether to go to bed or wait for the washing machine. It's been acting the maggot the last couple of washes and not draining properly so if I leave it for my husband to take out at 5 there's a 50:50 chance it won't have drained, the clothes will stink and will need to be washed again. Meh.

We got back to bed at about 1.45 he had about 2oz of water and it stayed down all night. I slept on the floor in his room just so as to keep an eye on him, i had him in my bed with me but he was tossing and turning, where as he was more comfortable in his own bed. I'm walking like an 80 yr old after sleeping on the hard floor, but the little guy was in great form when he woke up. I'm putting it down to been too warm, he seems to puke when he gets too hot, hubby said he was the same as a kid growing up, would puke from the heat, needless to say hubby can be quite cranky if the weather is any way warm, hoping the little guy ain't going to be the same :)

cyning - hope you made your course today or at least could re-arrange. Its awful hard to know whats best to do. I know this might sound harsh but i always send Sean to creche unless he has something contagious, i find if i keep him at home he'll be moping around and cranky whereas in the creche he's kept fully occupied and it doesn't seem to bother him. I'll always tell the girls in creche that he wasn't well or he's on an antibiotic etc and to ring me straight away if he's not himself and i think we have only had to collect him once early because he had 3 bad nappies. If i was to keep him off every time he was sick he'd never be in and i'd never be in work! He only goes 3 mornings a week anyway.

Neyite - thanks i'll try the baby probiotic and see how we get on.

We just had our worst night ever I think. He took 90 min to go down tonight. Then he woke every 10 min for the entire night! Screaming bloody murder when he woke. We tried calpol, a feed, taking him into our bed ( but then the screaming is in your ear) hubby slept on the floor beside his cot. Nothing helped. We got 30 min straight at 7am and thought he'd finally passed out but we were wrong. He's been up 2 hours now, bit cranky and bags under his eyes to match mine.

We were supposed to go out with friends today but I don't feel fit to drive :(

What is the deal with the oats and chickenpox?

For most kinds of skin irritation, oats is very soothing. When you put them in a bath (pro-tip, stick the oat flakes in a popsock first or your bath and bath occupant will be a mess - I found out the hard way:P!) it turns the water milky and it gives great relief. I've used it when the baby had a rash and when he had chicken pox.

You see oats in lots of skincare products because of this.

    .
I had to up the bottles for my 11 week old to 7oz and she ended up dropping one herself so she's down to 4. She tends to feed around 8am, 1pm, 5pm and 10pm and sleeps through the night. She found this routine herself so I'm just going with it. She had mild reflux too.

And if like me you have to get into the bath to convince my toddler the bath wasn't evil, it leaves your skin silky soft! I use a muslin and she rubs it all over the itchy bits herself too: i find it unreal the different it makes!

Is there any particular oats you use?

We had my friends little one down playing with my nephews on Thursday. Then my sister called me on Friday to say the both boys had broken out with chickenpox. So it's just a waiting game.

Just regular porridge oats I had the Aldi ones in the cupboard: incubation period is 10-21 days normally.

Using Virasooth as well as the Poxclin now much easier on her face. She's miserable now my poor petal :(

Our doctor just rang us with blood test results. apparently, she has a grade 2 hypersensitivity to peanuts. I have been told since 6 months old that it's dairy. . But dairy seemed fine in the blood test. She has had small amounts of peanut butter in home made bars and she's been fine. I was watching her afterwards waiting for a reaction but there was none. This has confused the hell out of me :( and scared me :( he gave me to name of two specialists but has anyone had anything like this?

Hope she is feeling better Cyning.

L is just over a bout of tonsillitis and she was very good with it, apart from not eating and a temp you wouldn't know she was sick. It was her first antibiotic and she is 2 so she has done well. I think the fact she doesn't go to creche helps. Hopefully she will be ok with the chickenpox too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,816 ✭✭✭Suucee

Im exhausted. L is back to terrible sleep. I dont understand it. Naps 2-2.5hrs during the day. Eats well. bedtime routine is fine bath, bedclothes, story, bed. Falls asleep himself. but up nearly every night or every second night for 1-2 hrs the past 2 weeks.
Hes just gone one. Sat night we went to bed about 10pm. He woke from 12-2 we brought him in to our bed and he eventually went back asleep but woke twice after that but settled easily. Then toddler woke us all at 8am.

I am so glad I found this thread!! I'm the mother of an 11 month old who has only slept through the night 6 times since she was born. I go back to work in the coming weeks and I don't know how we'll cope. I'm just glad to know we're not alone-everyone you meet seems to have a baby that has slept since 12 weeks and never peeps before 7am!! Just wanted to say thanks-I feel better today having read through the entire thread.

They are all lying joeyredl lol!

I think you might be doing better than a lot of us with the 6 times ha!

Last night I was so nervous about him waking I couldn't fall asleep. Finally dozing off at 1 am and he starts crying. Queue me gong in every 10 min until 3am! Then he woke all happy at 6.30! I'm so shattered!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭Woshy

I always think they must be lying too! My mum told me that I slept through the night from 6 weeks and I called bull**** but she was adamant. My Dad backed her up too. I kind of wish I'd given her a harder time! :D

My baba slept through the night from about 9 or 10 months old but before that he was terrible and I was like a zombie. It was awful. Funnily enough, some of the babies who were much better sleepers early on are now being more difficult (the babas would all be almost two). Our little boy is a good sleeper now and would sleep 8.30pm - 8am most nights. He would very rarely go in the bed with us at night and even if he does he goes back in his cot after half an hour. Some of my friends whose babies would have been good sleepers early on have their babies coming in to them all the time at all hours now and getting up at the crack of dawn they're wrecked!

So I do think everyone gets their turn with it!

Im hoping we get this in reverse. My almost 2 years hates sleeps! Well he hates sleep on his own. He doesnt go down easy and is a frequent waker but he is improving with age. Im really hoping that the current baba Im cooking is a sleeper

I know that feeling-wondering what the point in going to bed is as you'll be up in an hour.

I'm sick of being told it's a phase all these things pass. She's a terrible napper and has been since day one. She's up at 630 everyday and the only way I can get her to sleep is out in the buggy. You could set your watch by us these days pounding the pavements . The mad thing is she's really placid and rarely cranky, which is ridiculous for a baby that gets way below the recommended sleep hrs.

I've number two due in 6 weeks and I'm hoping she is better than her brother. I definitely feel like she is calmer just from the kicks and movement.

Hearing from others about babies that were such different sleepers gives me hope. I am dreading the exhaustion of the first 6 months. If I think too much about it it makes me feel sick!
