I don't talk about it with anyone anymore! Unless its been so bad that I have to cancel plans. My sister has a 3 week old and he sleeps all day and all night. I've seen his eyes once! He's dropped a night feed so her husband does 11 pm, she does 3am then she doesn't get up again til 7! I want to slap her in the nicest way possible :). My fella woke every 2 hours and fed for an hour until he was 4 months old. I thought I was going to die lol!

Our doctor just rang us with blood test results. apparently, she has a grade 2 hypersensitivity to peanuts. I have been told since 6 months old that it's dairy. . But dairy seemed fine in the blood test. She has had small amounts of peanut butter in home made bars and she's been fine. I was watching her afterwards waiting for a reaction but there was none. This has confused the hell out of me :( and scared me :( he gave me to name of two specialists but has anyone had anything like this?

I haven't had allergy tests with my little one but have gone through it myself. I went to Dr Mitchell in Blackrock Clinic. My advice would be to keep getting different tests (some chemists even do it) until you're happy and confident in what she can/can't have. Get advice but listen to your gut aswell. I know this is a hard time, its scary. But it will get better once you get answers that make sense.

I would advise keeping a food diary, allergies can take up to 48 hours to occur and can build over time so keeping a diary allows you to see patterns. Patch tests on the skin and hair sample tests are also available along with the extensive blood tests. Hope this helps somewhat.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that if she's been off dairy for a while I'm not sure if it would show as a problem in a blood test (I could be wrong here) but my understanding is that it would show in the hair test as the hair is older if that makes sense!

Bah, mighty sick of the post-partum belly at this stage. My baby is 4 months and I still look 6 months pregnant :( I've been reasonably good with my diet but as I'm still breastfeeding, I can't do my usual strict 'blitz'. Whoever said that breastfeeding melts away the pounds is a liar btw, it just makes me ravenous :p

Anyone got any good exercise tips?

Go on to YouTube and look up eight minute abs. I swear by it.

I found it made my appetite massive too, but on the flip side because my little girl was latched onto me for about 23 hours a day it didn't give me any time to feed myself when I was at home on my own!! It was a good four months before I started to resemble my pre-pregnancy shape and then a combination of walking a lot during the day (to help her nap and keep me sane getting out of the house) and eating less I dropped a lot of weight very fast.

The little lady has the snuffles and spent last night waking up every 20 minutes when she realised she couldn't breathe through her nose. I'm zombified today.

    Hello all,

Just a general question. Our 9 month old now has 3 bottles and 3 meals a day. We are just worried he isn’t getting enough liquids as well. The meals are generally porridge mixed with water and maybe baby rice mixed with water or one of the Ella mixes. Should we also be supplementing him with drinks of water? Or between the bottles of mix which contain 210 ml’s of water and the meals would that be enough?

My 8 month old drinks water from a sippy cup through the day, she's very good at self regulating and just takes sips here and there when it's needed. On days when her stools seem a bit harder than normal I offer her the cup more frequently and she takes it as she needs it (and loves the sippy cup, it's almost like a toy when she's holding it and drinking from it by herself!).

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,919 ✭✭✭dori_dormer

We also offer water with every meal. Breakfast would be porridge made with milk, fruit and milk. Snack would be fruit, yogurt and cheese. Lunch would be pancakes or omelette or banana on toast or a toasted sandwich. Dinner he would have some of what we are having.

Baby rice has no nutritional value so I'd be cutting that out. There's also lots of water in raw fruit and veg.

I'd be offering water in a sippy cup during the day as it took my fella months to get used to the cup.

Look up the 30 day shred on you tube Dolbert. It's a 20 minute thing with 5 mins warm-up, cool-down.

I couldn't do most of it at the start, but give it a week every day you'll get better and better at it. Best thing every during my mat leave, it was very handy when the babs was down for a nap.

Davina mccauls 30min workouts are great also. Prob on Youtube but I have as mpegs if you need them. Really enjoyable workouts and there's about 4 types so you can mix it up a bit.

    Hi all,
I'm minding a baby for the next few months in donabate. Would anyone like to meet up during the day for coffee and chat?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭loubian

Try bokwa! Type it into Facebook. There are quite a few trainers. I sweated like a pig last night in it but feel fantastic today!

I second davina mccalls workouts - did that tonight! You can do as little or as much as you want.

Yoga is brilliant for relaxation and learning how to control your body - mentally and physically.

I sometimes then mess with bubs on the bed, put her on my knees and pretend she's flying! Works those ab muscles :P

Brought the lil guy to the doc today to make sure theres no medical reason for his night time waking. He wakes every night and literally screams the house down like he is demented for 1-2hrs (eyes still closed some nights). She reckons prob night terrors and possibly a bit of teething added to the mix. I mentioned also about the day time tantrums. So reckons not much more i can do other thank hold him and keep him safe. He is just gone 1 and gets that worked up he headbuts the floor. So keeping an eye and hope for improvement. She said not to be afraid to use calpol and gave me some daktarin to help the gums as they are very badly inflammed and dont look great. Hoping its a case of bad teething and it passes.. and sleep improves a bit soon. Last night he woke 4.30 roared till 6. (Ear piercing screams) Fell asleep 6.15 and toddler up at 6.30. Tired is not the word.

Oh massive hugs Succee... That's so tough. Hope the daktarin helps and you get some sleep... That's exhausting

If it's any help, my second has just turned 14 months and the tantrums are slowly reducing as she gets more independent. We still rarely get a full nights sleep and I feel your pain with one waking the other or just getting one back to sleep for the second to wake. I know it's the worst thing to say but it will get better, or at least that's what I'm choosing to believe :)

Both my two are vomiting... Still waiting on S to come down with chicken pox too. And C has an extremely heavy cold and is only puking when she falls asleep... Wrecked now. I just don't know how much more sickness we can get at this stage.

My poor little babba has the worst wind after feeding - farts in pain for two hours, gets maybe half an hour sleep and then feeds again :-( poor little mite. Not sure if my boobs are giving milk too fast but always worse and night and getting progressively worse each feed

We had a horrific 8-10 weeks with our little lad, little to no sleep at night but now, at 19 weeks, he goes down at about 8pm after a bottle and winding and usually sleeps through till between 8 and 10am...

    Long may it last!!

We had that for a long time too. My let down was too fast so in the end I stopped bfeeding and he went onto lactose free formula. Problem solved. Lord, it was horrific at night watching him writhing in pain.

Yeah I want to keep bf but we all need sleep especially with a toodler and hubby back at work. Poor babba

Aw cyning . There are no word for how sick they are. Poor things.

So my doc told me to use a small dose of teedex for 3 nights to try help L sleep better at night. Between that and the daktarin.
So first 2 nights. Still the same. Waking and roaring for 1.5hr.
3rd night slept through. 4th night no teedex and slept 8.30 -6.30 (his sister woke him) then 5th night 7.30-7.30.
We thought we had it cracked but woke last night twice. No roaring. Can see a tooth coming so that explains it.
The difference in his daytime mood is unbelievable. He is actually so much happier and content when he gets a good night sleep.
I thought we just had a major whiney cranky tantrum throwing 12mnth old but looks like he was teething bad and not sleeping. Feeling a bit silly now. Although he still throws his tantrums but not as frequent or as bad.

3yr old though has taken to waking earlier . This is so odd. She has always been a fab sleeper. 12-13hrs at night and was having 1hr during the day until a few weeks ago but keeps waking earlier and earlier. Normal wake up is 7.30-8.30 but up every morning lately before 7 slowly creeping back and came in at 5.40 one morning.
So we bought her a gro clock as part of her birthday present . (3rd Birthday wens). Last night was first night with it. I rolled over about 6.50 and she was in our bed. I was that tired having been up with L, ive no idea what time she came in at. So OH brought her back to her room and showed her that she needs to wait until the sun comes. She seemed very interested anyway.

Im slowly considering getting a king size bed. Or even a single bed and attaching it to ours just for peace lol.

Is anyone's little one a picky eater? My little one is 16 months old. She was a great eater until she was 12 months old - we did a mix of spoon feeds and blw and she would eat practically everything put in front of her, two big meals a day plus snacks!

However, since hitting the 12 month mark, she justs picks at her food! A few morsels go into her mouth and the rest is either spat out, thrown on the floor/at the walls or rubbed in her hair:eek: I literally have to strip her after her meals & then spend ages cleaning the highchair, floor etc very disheartening:(

And everyone saying she is tiny doesn't help:( Trying not to make a big deal out of it & keeping a poker face but god if its a phase I wish it would bloody well hurry up & end:eek::eek:

My lad was at this too - he's 18 months now and eats like a horse. Keep telling yourself this too shall pass! I was worried about his intake, so I made sure his snacks were hi cal and nutritious - rice cakes with peanut butter and banana, yogurt with extra fruit stirred in, cheese sticks etc.

My baba had horrible silent reflux and I had a fast let down. I vaguely recall hand expressing or pumping the first little bit (like 30 seconds) and once I let down I'd latch him on so it wasn't coming at him so forcefully, iykwim. That whole time is a sleepless blur but I think it helped!
