What is the maximum time that you can go abroad for on Irish insurance and still be insured comprehensively? Is it even possible to get fulltiming Insurance in Ireland? I'm planning a long trip and may have to get insurance abroad if that is even possible.

If you want insurance abroad they will be looking for an address, and most likely for you to register it and test it abroad within a time frme. There are companies that insure foreign registered vehicles but you'll still want an address. Then you need to think about no claims bonus.

Just talk to your insurer much easier. As far as I know there is no time limit to the dolmen policy but you'd have to have an irish address and return to DOE.

Any European policy will cover you for 3rd party 365 days in Europe...despite what the antiquated Irish insurers might tell you.
    Dolmen is 365 foreign coverage.

It also depends on the clauses in the policy, and where you want to go. We could not get an Irish insurer to cover our vehicle abroad as we wanted a few months in Morocco, and from there on to South America. We ended up cancelling our Irish policy, and taking one with Alessie in the Netherlands, who specialize in world wide policies.

    Currently in Peru...
