And to fund that €115 million will be taken from the medical card scheme. That is a savage cutback to bring about a scheme that is not even means tested.

Shame on Labour for being proud of a scheme that is not even remotely means tested.

Agreed, it is taking from the needy to fund some needy and some wealthy. Hardly fair.

Agreed. Easily the most baffling and unfair point of this budget.

if this is going to be official budget thread, why isn't the OP being updated with what's happening?

This is a discussion site, not a news ticker.

Great for the already suffering low and middle income persons, but I am sorry, there are so many people that can afford it.
......whos taxes are paying for the free care. Schemes like this should be available for all, we need to give incentives for people to earn more, not look to take things away

We have been fed this line in the past, think about 6 months ago the central bank had outlined this proposal, what exactly does this mean?

Not for you, it's for people who turn 25 next year, they won't get the increase

So just scanning the headlines...might have picked it up wrong but looks like pregnant pensioners who enjoy a few smokes and a glass of wine are getting screwed?

And everyone else assumes they're grand but will presumably be shafted by a whole bunch of stealth taxes that will be announced in the coming days

Nearly 50% of all children under five have medical cards as it is. Thankfully the most needy children already have a medical card, however unfortunately the government will take the cards from the elderly that are in need.

To be expected from FG, but shame on Labour.
