Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Questions to ask the Heating People?

I'm meeting a few heating specialist/providers over the next few weeks and I'd be grateful if any of you could advise me as to what questions I really need to ask.

The house is 2 storey, 2,300sq/ft with a concrete first floor. Will have a heat recovery system installed.

I was tossing up between air to wtaer and ground source, and am leaning towards the latter.

If any of you have any questions I should ask I'd be delighted to hear them.

COP would be the first one, I presume...?

Is this a new build or a retro fit

Do you know you heat demand either via PHPP or DEAP

What are you levels of insulation

    New build.

PHPP and DEAP I have no idea about and, to be honest, I don't know what they mean? :(

We're definite about 150mm cavity insulation, 200mm is a possibility depending on price.

    So can I suggest
    a) trawl this forum for PHPP and get familier with what a Passive House is - check out the PHAI site here in ireland and google PHPP
    b) get a provisional BER done to calc you heat demand etc and that you will comply with regs (150mm is very borderline)
    c) employ professionals who can advise you on these matters
    d) and PLEASE do not start to build until you have a very detailed spec - spend once but spend wisely :D

Thnaks Fclauson. Trouble is, some pros I talk to tell me that 150 is plenty, others that it's not enough! :o

I'm used to the contradictions at this stage.

Welcome to the would of "asha it'll be ok"

Do your own research - and believe no one unless you cross check your answers with at least 3 others
