Scheldeprijs which he should win if the wind and level crossings don't make a difference. RE: the level crossings am I thinking of a different race or was it that one that saw a mass DQ a few years ago with guys hopping the gates?

Paris roubaix. I think he could win this race due to it being flat and hopefully he doesn’t get mechanical issues. He’s in great form. They way he was climbing in Paris nice, he is probably favourite for the green jersey TDF.

It would be a massive shock if he did. I don't see him having the endurance over all those cobbles

I think he could do well, given how he handled Sunday. However, I'd say he's unlikely to get a start, how stacked DQS are. Even in Gent Wevelgem they went in with two sprinters.

surely Sam should have been plan B yesterday, get a more all rounder into the break and let Sam rest up on the chance it comes back together.
He didnt only sit on yesterday he took turns,no wonder he was sick,he was never beating Van Art that way.

    Isn't PR cancelled?

Could be due to COVID etc

    Isn't PR cancelled?

not officially. It was cancelled, but then a local politician came out and said there would be a decision on it iirc, so no official confirmation of cancelation just yet

He probably was plan B. They defo didn’t plan on having him in the breakaway but that’s what happens with echelons and teams have to adapt

Should he not have sat up and waited for his teammates ,they were only a minute behind ,they could have organised the chase better,

You can't sit on in echelons - "easiest" way to stay in the group is to ride through. Sam wasn't the issue, it was the rest of them missing the splits.

As Dodge said, he probably was Plan B, as it was an unknown whether he could get over the Kemmelberg with the likes of WvA. Assuming he stays, I'd expect him to be one of the DQS Plan A's next year

Spot on. Also Sam doing a few pulls at the front wasn’t the difference between that group staying away and being caught.

    Isn't PR cancelled?

Most likely scenario right now is a change of date

This should possibly be phrased "assuming Decuenick Quickstep survive".
Lefevre apparently only has 4 riders under contract for next year, one being Allaphilipe, and is going thru the usual rigmarole of trying to get new sponsors. Not sure is Decuenick are going to be a headline sponsor. I'm sure Sam staying on and being recontracted will be an important bargaining chip, regardless.

Would it be fair to say that Sam being the fastest sprinter in the fleet affects his ability to get over the bumpier courses. And if he wanted more success on these 1 day races he would probably need to sacrifice some of that power?

Now if you are Sam are you happy being the fastest man in the peleton or do you want to mix it up?

Yes and even then it might not be possible. It's pretty unusual these days to be a classics guy and sprinter unless you are Sagan who really is a once in a generation freak

Kelly even more so as he could time trial and get over all but the highest mountains while winning Classics and bunch sprints

Or a guy called Wout van Aert :) Who can also TT better than most.

And drop multiple Tdf winners on a climb.

He could definitely take on Sagan in terms of a varied palmares especially in the classics but I can't see even him get close to Sagan as a sprinter as well. Will definitely be a better TT and GC rider though

I'd say be happy to be the fastest man and win a stage in every stage race you do, picking up the odd leaders jersey.
Win TDF green jersey if possible.
Try win in Madrid in Vuelta.
Aim for Milan San Remo each year, could have made it over the Poggio without the puncture this year (should be able to match Ewan on a climb like that).

If he was on a lesser team he could probably do Roubaix as a free shot, like Greipel and possibly Cavendish have done in the past, with QStep he wont get his game in the big classics like RVV and PR, Amstel, but he gets the best lead out in races that suit him.

He would have to sacrifice too much speed to become better at the classics.

Rumours of Sagan to Quickstep in 2022 can't be good for Sam to have him in the same team again

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,251 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

He would only be Sam's lead out man on current form

Rumor was that Specialized paid part of his Bora salary to keep him on their bikes so it might be a thing.

At the same time Lefevre keeps saying he doesn't even have sponsors

I'm guessing this would only be a case if Sagan brings sponsors with him. Similar to Cab bringing sponsors/money to the team this season. Would have to have his salary covered plus some money into the general team coffers.

Well, Almeida is going to UAE, apparently, and Levfevre will likely lose at least one of Asgreen, Senechal, Stybar and Lampert next season. Sagan would fit into that classics role aongside JA, with Bennett maintaining his role as top sprinter and Evenopoel leading the team in grand tours.

Lampert is under contract for next year. The four DQS with a contract for least 2022 are JA, Evenopoel, Vansevenant and Lampert iirc. So even Sam is not confirmed at the moment.

He is now saying he is sure the team is fine. All typical Lefevre
