Sagan looks likely to replace him at QS next year.

How does this add up? DQS cannot 'afford' to keep Sam because they have lost Deceuninck as a sponsor despite having committed to Evenepoel and Allaphillipe and Asgreen on multi year deals and yet Sagan is now being linked to them, with some expectation of maintaining his €4-5M annual salary? I know Specialized will be covering some of this cost, but I still don't see how those ends meet when Sam is still likely to get better results for the team. It has been adequately how Sagan is worth much more to a team than the sum of his wins - but still !
That sounds like a ball-hop to me..............?

Because Sagan is Sagan the most marketable rider in years. Just signing him is worth the publicity.

Bennett is currently the best but will be forgotten outside Ireland just like Matthews, Ewan, Gaviria and so on. Sagan is Ala probably is close and Remco is likely to be legends of the sport. It sucks but it's how it is

I wonder if the current state of DQ's tilt at the giro GC is causing them to revaluate Sam's position.... I'm sure Remco will be an excellent rider but currently he's struggling on descents, with explosive climbs, with steep climbs and his bike handling. He's just back from a long injury obviously but right now looks very far from the finished article.

I would still back him over Sam if it was a case I only had money for one or the other. He is very young, Belgian and far more versatile

He suffers from some fairly big limitations, we will see how he progresses, but he is not looking like a GC rider to rival Bernal, Pogacar or Roglič and with the exception of Roglič they are all very close to his age.

What limitations exactly ? Taking into account the Giro is his first race in almost a year. He certainly has a lot less limitations than Bennett

Descending for one, QS are to hire a specialist to help him with it. He does need to work on elements of his skill set to rival the current GC stars so hopefully over the next 2 years he does.
My fear is he is at the wrong team for a GC challenge in any 3 week race. They need to hire some serious horse power for that soon.

Just let Jumbo do the work and beat them in the time trial. Simple

Bennett will be the lead sprinter for Deceuninck-QuickStep at Tour de France

Moving back to Bora next season

Bora link is only a rumour, Lefevre can be mischevious:
It will be Sam's last year with us, and there are rumours he will go back to Bora-Hansgrohe, but there is no certainty yet.

Lefevre is great for the entertainment value and he seems to know how to play the unique game that is 'Pro Cycling' better than anyone. But I wouldn't believe a word that he utters for public consumption for that very reason.

Indeed, I was going to eat my hat based on the headline but it isn't a news story, just a throwaway comment.

When Morkov re-signed there a few weeks ago, Sam put pictures i this insta stories of his wins in De Panne and on the Champs Elysees, congratulating Morkov with the caption "to be continued....." made me wonder if he is actually leaving.

I would also be of the opinion that negotiations on-going. As mentioned above, Lefevre knows how to play the game to his best advantage.

    https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/sam-bennett-linked-with-move-to-ineos-grenadiers/

This suggests that Bennett may be going to Ineos Grenadier.
Some lads on here will be very conflicted, if that happens.

That piece claims that Bora have signed Ryan Mullen too.

Will he suddenly become Belgian if this move happens?

He will suddenly become a guy with no hope of getting picked for the Tour

They're professionals, money talks (be that Bora money or tax exile brexiteer money), but FFS please not Skineos.

It will be heartbreaking to see him advertising that horrible Land Rover Humvee rip-off proudly British made in France heap of BS Grenadier.

Not as bad as Dan promoting war criminals but not great either

If he does go to Ineos and he starts talking about the 'Grenadier spirit', then I'm out.

The Ineos chemicals portfolio is far more detrimental than the small number of knock-off Defenders they'll sell. Plus, if promotion of cars is the issue, AG2R-Citroen is probably far worse, in terms of sheer volume.

As regards war criminals and human rights abuses, that ship sailed long before ISN arrived - Astana, UAE, Bahrain..

In fact, when you look at the primary sponsors at World Tour and Continental level, it doesn't make for pleasant reading on a number of fronts.

Just in terms of Ineos I know they do worse than the car but you don't see the riders rolling around in oil trying to sell it to you where as that stupid tank is in all their promo stuff and they had a few needlessly following the Giro round for the last few weeks.
At least Citroens are cars normal people might need for work and family life.

There is a fine list of dodgy countries, oil companies, gambling brands and potential Bond villains in the top levels of cycling alright.

Even Hansgrohe were using slave labour during the war although they had at least switched to making fuses rather than showerheads which would hold a far more grim and particular significance

Sports washing severely restricts my ability to support riders.
They don't have any women's teams either, which is...(all the things).

Sam is set to ride at the Tour of Belgium from 9th-13th June.

Should be a stacked sprint field with Ewan, Merlier Ackermann, Bols, Groenewegen all down to start. Demare the only sprinter missing really

Doesn’t look like Morkov is there so should be interesting
