Having Banned under your username when you are not Banned. Ban that.

Yo dawg, we saw you were Banned, so we banned you, as we have banned Banned.

'Boffins' or the adjectives the red tops use after a gangland shooting etc. 'Blasted' 'gunned down in a hail of bullets' i.e. two shots were fired

    You mean "now"? Wanker

Kicking the can down the road

I really really hate that one - when did it just creep into use? What was wrong with "putting things on the long finger" , "delaying the inevitable". To me kicking a can down the road is something you do/did for fun while walking home from school or the pub - it has nothing to do with putting off things to tomorrow. End of rant :D

    Others that should be banned:

"Don't get me wrong but......" or it's close relation " I'm not being funny but.." Always guaranteed to be followed by something offensive.
Why can't we say - are we in agreement instead of "on the same page" or "singing from the same hymn sheet"

'All joking aside' is another one, have heard people using it in serious conversations where nobody was laughing

"I don't know what you mean".

As in, "yes you are right, I'm in the wrong, but give me a few more opportunities to argue my way out of this".

You've just pointed out a few inadequacies or unfairness at work and you are "politely advised" that

    1) "you"ve trodden on a few toes" and best to
    2) "keep your head down for a while"
    3) "until the dust settles" and
    4) "you"re out of the woods" and
    5) "you're in the clear.

    "The reality is"

    "I have a 5 point plan"

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

In fairness, 99% of tabloid headliners are cliches or really bad puns.

Abbreviating it to 'the Bants', sounds like an STD.

Please tell me people don't really say "the Bants".

"Categorically deny" - why is simply denying not enough anymore?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,047 ✭✭✭Kettleson

....so how can you "categorically deny"...when....."even the dogs in the street" know that Santa is "inextricably linked"..with supplying Toy Guns to children, and a "turkey never votes for Christmas"...

At the end of the day (Thanks David Beckham)
    A one point game
Kicked the ball up the park (used to be a field or a Pitch, once upon a time)
He fell 'on the floor' (what happened to fell on the ground)
An' to think these athletes are amatuers (GAA players)
GAA 'Stars'' (anyone that played, at any level, ever.)
    'Known' to Gardai?
The German / Spanish / Congolese / Russian referee (Always used by Irish commentator when a decision goes against us)
He clearly played the ball...(when an Irish player deliberately fouls a player)
The German / Russian / Congolese ref should have flashed red there...when an Irish player is fouled.
'Blueberry Jam' ...From a Newstalk interview some weeks ago about making home-made Jam... God be with the days when it was Blackberry Jam. (Feck this, now I want some!)
The word 'Clear' or 'Clearly (in fashion nowadays)
    To be honest
    To be very honest
    To be quite honest
    To be really honest
    To be perfectly honest (Grrrrr)
'I mean...' as a prelude to answering a question.

    "Going forward"

"At this point in time" (what's wrong with "now"?)
