All these hipsters people are referring to do NOT have beards. A beard is not a partly shaved styled style thingy, its manly testosterone pushing out keratin and other protein based shít cos you are a MAN and men eat meat and meat makes you manly.

You know whats even more manly than a standard beard? A manly redish beard with grey in it when you're not even a ginger. I know if I see fellow bearded man, there's that almost subliminal, beard to beard aknowledgement.

If there's a beardless one, there's a common sense of rolleyes.

Beardless ones tend to feel threatened by the beard.

About a year ago a mate of mine bet me 20 euro that I couldn't go a beard in 4 weeks, he thought I'd cave and shave as I often get a bit of the "tinkers itch" after not shaving for 10 + days and it would drive me mad. Showed up for a night out 4 weeks later looking like a fisherman that's been out at sea for 4 weeks, easiest 20 quid I ever made. Didn't keep it, too much maintenance!

My girlfriend would hate if I grew a beard, she finds them unattractive and she has really sensitive skin, even those days where my face is a little stubbly, like I mean after only a day or two away from the razor, my stubble can leave a kind of mark on her face, sort of like a rash I guess, does look kind of sore. So I have to shave pretty much everyday as a result, last time I was with her I left a large pack or razors in her bathroom!

Definite rise in the amount of bearded folk though, very popular among hipsters and most students in general.

Growing a beard would stop that problem all together, well maintained beards are far softer that stubble. She's getting a rash because she is rubbing her face on a your sandpaper like skin. A nice soft Brian Blessed type effort would be like rubbing her face on clouds.

Yeah by the end of my 4 week stint with one, the first 2 weeks of growing it were hell because of the itch. Into week 3 and 4 it was quite soft and always had the urge to run my fingers through it (pretending to seem intelligent) :pac:

Had that beard well before I met the girlfriend, she still doesn't like the look of them anyway so I have to go babyfaced constantly. Feels like I live in front of the mirror either in my bathroom or hers haha I never used to shave as often until I met her. She should meet you half way. I used to shave for my ex sometimes, and other times she would be expected to put up with the beard as it's my preferred way of grooming my facial hair.

Beards on men are certainly in fashion, probably a lot to do with big name actors adopting them a few years ago

Fanny beards on the other hand have dramatically declined in popularity, also influenced by (part of) the movie industry.

Well she doesn't exactly tell me to shave, but she would hint say after the shift and she complains very politely and is cute in the way she does it so I go up and splash on some water and dove soap and run the razor over what I consider "early on-set bumfluff" takes like 3 or 4 mins really. I now shave nearly as often as brushing my teeth when I stay in hers.

A beard can look dignified on a mature man, provided its well groomed and shaped.

However, what I see with a lot of young folk these days are frightful, very scraggily, unkempt beards that looks like they've glued the remnants of a waxing salon's strips to their face. Lots of horrendous looking neck-beard's too.

All I think when I see these types is, you spend a lot of time eating junk, playing video games and stroking your face pubes. Not a very appealing aesthetic for a man to have. Clean shaven is the way to go until you reach your late 30s or early 40s. Its very hard to take young man with the 'baby gorilla in blender' look on their face seriously.

I have had facial hair since I was about 16, almost 30 now. I think in the last 6 years I have been clean shaven once. My current gf of 3 years has never seen me without facial hair of some sort. I'm also currently in my 2nd month of a yeard

I shaved of my ZZ Topper off a couple of years ago for the first time since 92...my daughter started crying when she saw me as she had never seen me clean shaven in her life-time.

I grew it back ASAP, when I looked in the mirror it was like...'Who the fook is that?'

I now sport the shaved head, handlebar & goatee look

Sure, I'm currently working on my winter beard for this year, nice and thick it is, but also well groomed and maintained.

Do we split it into beard categories, or just an overall competition? Do we just include the bearded among us now, or say have a month or two's competition time etc.?

We can use a variation of the WBMA rules. Full (Mountain Man style), partial (The donegal, friendly chops, so on), moustache (Just the 'tache), and instead of freestyle, a newcomer category. All newcomers are required to post a photo of themselves pre-beard with proof of current date. Because it'll be photo only (Maybe length?) it'll be harder to judge properly. There should be five independent judges, scores are one to ten, then highest and lowest are subtracted from the total. It should be a month from now so that newcomers can figure out what type of beard they want and can grow!

I have a pretty decent beard at the moment, but I don't think I've ever thought "I'll grow a beard", they just seem to happen. I go for a couple of weeks without shaving and then just tidy up my neck and cheeks and all of a sudden I have a beard!

Have mine since 1998, my wife will not allow me to shave it off, I did once in 1998 and she freaked out too much so it was grown back straight away.

I forget what I look like, seriously!:eek: I really have no idea what I look like, maybe a youthful baby face or a battered alcohol ridden face? Probably the latter.
