Foxing Compeition

27th October 2013, 11 am

The MNSCI will be holding a Fox, snap target, competition on October 27th, 2013. The comp will begin at 11am so early arrival and registration is advised.


The competition will consist of 5 shots at a Fox size target at three distances. The targets are snap targets, meaning they will only be seen/visible for a short period of time in which the competitor must make the shot. 2 zeroing shots will be allowed at each distance before scoring rounds are fired.

Competition Details:

• 100 yards - 2 zero shots, and 5 scoring shots.
• 300 yards - 2 zero shots, and 5 scoring shots.
• 500 yards - 2 zero shots, and 5 scoring shots.

Rules:

• Open to all (members and non members alike)
• Any caliber rifle can be used (and depending on turn out for the day it may be split into two categories).
• Insurance and license for firearm must be provided upon arrival/entrance to competition/clubhouse.
• Front rest ONLY. No rear rifle support.
• All shot in the prone position ONLY.

Notice/Extra info

There will a range practice day this Saturday, 20th October 2013, starting at 1 pm to allow anyone wishing to enter the competition to practice at the 500 yard distance. Most lads have their drops out to 300 and the indoor range is available to check these, however as some may not have shot the distance or use holdover the range is being made available to allow lads to precisely get their drops for 500 yards.

I might head over for the practice day this Saturday. To help out in the butts and try the 500 myself. Never used my new rifles at that distance yet so will be interesting. If something comes up for Saturday then i'll be over Sunday to check the 500 zero.

Then intending to head over next week for the comp.

Due to severe weather (wind and possible rain) the planned fox comp tomorrow has been postponed. It may be rescheduled for 2 weeks or so, and i'll update as i get it, but the main point is the comp tomorrow is postponed.


Please do not travel.

As was said there is a provisional date set for This Sunday however the forecast actually looks worse than the last day with high winds, and over an inch of rain predicted to fall.

Hence the reason it has not been announced. I doubt it will go ahead, but the weather man has been wrong before.

If i get any definitive answers i'll let people know asap. I apologise for the short notice, but have been busy IRL.

I'd need more than a couple of days notice to get to shoot at this event. Please, please, try to give a couple of weeks at a minimum

It hasn't been a couple of weeks since the last one was cancelled.


I'll give as much notice as i get. I'm not running it, and therefore have no control over when and what notice is given.

The foxing competition will go ahead NEXT SUNDAY the 17/Nov/2013 at the aforementioned times above.

There is an open invitation, and suggestion, for people not familiar with long distance shooting to go to the range and check their zero/drops/etc for 500 yards. This can be done either tomorrow (Sunday 10/Nov/2013) or next Saturday (16/11/2013) on the range.

This is an open comp so all are welcome. Just have a read of the range guidelines/rules above for requirements in terms of PPE, insurance, etc.

Mighty hope to make it up

Would not have made it on the original date but should be able to make it this time. Looking forward to the day. Should even be able to get up the day before for sighting in shots. Would 2 o clock be time enough on the Saturday for sighting in shots?

Was up today to sight in the scope at 500 yards wsd very impressed with the layout and had great help from Tony even though he was under pressure doing other things. Will be back tomorrow for the competition good luck to all

Great day today met a few old friends and probably a few new ones as well did not get any prizes but did manage a lovely fallow calf on the way home

Brilliant stuff, I'd take a calf over a trophy any day! :cool: Enjoyed it myself, will definitely go to anything else they plan.
