Long enough day in work by the time I got home all I wanted was to relax for the evening. Managed to talk mysel into getting out the door for an easy few miles. So a nice 45 mins along the canal.

    Friday 24 January
A shade under 50 mins along the canal tonight ran towards town for a change. This section wouldn't be as enjoyable. Felt a bit tired today so was glad to get the run done. Easy few miles on grass tomorrow and slightly longer run to follow on Sunday. The question nos is two beers or not two beers..

Ah Feckin ex drinkers I thought you loved the beer but all it took was ecoli to up his mileage and you turned your back on the good stuff.
Managed to stay home until after 10 so no beers for me tonight maybe this early closing is a good thing.

    Monday 27th January
45 mins handy on grass today, park is in bit at the moment but sick of the sight of road ,

    Tuesday 28th January
45 mins easy along the canal with 2x6 mins, found the first rep hard as i've only been jogging around the past while but second once felt a lot easier. Was very late getting this run done and found it hard to get to sleep after.

    Wed 29th January
45 mins easy on road, managed to get a break in work so put the runners on and got out. Had a bit of mad company for this run, the route was down long the road to lucan, where there is a bike track all the way. I like this run as no traffic to annoy you. The lad i was running with decided as we came a roundabout to run on the road and make a bee line across the round about one of the most crazy things I've ever seen while running.

Came to a point where I didn't know what was going on in the run, actually came to a stop shaking my head at one point wondering is he for real...

    Sunday 2 February
Headded to ticknock today for the imra race this is replacing my longer run but the plan was to take it very easy as I've very few miles in the legs.
From the start I was in a world of pain and found it really hard going legs were dead and after 5 mins felt like dropping out managed to keep going and just get around the course apart from more thoughts of stopping after 20 mins .About 3/4 way around the course I started to feel a bit better and picked up a few places. After passing a few runners I found myself of the course some how and had to wait for the group again to see where we needed to go. Took a while and a bit of extra running to get back on track but wasn't to worried. Really enjoyed this in the end but was the hardest run in a long time. Was right down the back of the field but not bothered with that right now it's all about building up slowly.

    Plan for the week.
Legs are feeling good after yesterday enjoying these runs but think the next one in two week might be a big long so I will play it by ear and see how things go. Starting to get into good habits again with more sleep and less food.

Monday 30/40 mins easy will see how the legs feel once I get out , If they feel very tired I will run walk.
Tuesday 45 mins easy _ core
Wed 45 mins with 2x6 mins tempo.
    Thursday - Rest + core
Friday 45 mins with some strides
Saturday 60 mins easy on grass.
    Sunday - 45 mins easy.

    Monday 3rd Febuary
40 mins handy on grassmud. Legs were shot was just a jog around to try and loosen them out. Finished up with some stretching.

    Tuesday 4th Febuary
Decided to take today off legs just very tired and hit the gym and pool for a while instead. Sunday took a bit more out of me than I though so will play the next day or two by ear.

    Thursday 6th Feb

    AM
Hit the gym before work for some light weights and core work. I can do a total of zero chin ups.

    PM
It was after 10:30 when I got out the door, so a nice 40 mins or peace along the canal. Legs feeling a lot better today.

No mid week beers for 3 weeks now , which is a record I think.

    Saturday 8th Feb
45 mins on the beach, wind was a B&*ch but I enjoyed this run.

    Monday 10th Feb.

Haven't logged in a while but training has just been ticking over with 2 ok weeks. First week was a 33 mile week with 6 runs and with one easy tempo of 2X10 mins.
Last week wasn't as good only 3 runs due to a mixture of work and some trips to hospital but these things happen.
Plan for the next few weeks is to get the mileage upto 40 miles then see how things go but maybe away with work a lot over the next few months so might be looking for some new routs in London/ Crawley.

  • Registered Users Posts: 364 ✭✭morceli

Another couple of so so weeks. Just been getting out for easy jogs as work has been a bit mental. Been away a good bit with long days and then nights out.

But have been luck that I've been getting a minimum of 5 runs per week the last 3 week. In Ireland for a full week this week and hoping to arrange a meeting next Monday that would mean having to go to London on Sunday for the Marathon. It's 50-50 at the moment so fingers crossed. I've dropped all plans of running any races for next few months but will need to find a better structure for my running. Bumped into a running club while out last Tuesday night and spotted a new looking track.

  • Registered Users Posts: 364 ✭✭morceli

Easy enough week last week. Have been totally missing structure from training but that needs to change.

    Monday

    AM
    4 miles easy on grass
    PM
    circuit training.

    Tuesday
4 mile run walk home from work

    Wed
    AM
Easy swim, used to be able to swim a bit but all over the place.

    PM
    3 miles handy jog

    Thursday
Just an easy session in the gym and some core work

    Friday
    Rest

    Saturday
Hill/Cliff run in howth more of a run walk for about 60 mins.

    Sunday
3 miles AM before watching the marathon

Well things are not going well at all, the past two weeks I've missed about 10 days with the flu. Totally took it out of me and only now starting to recover. Training has been lacking focus the past while so have decided to set some target. Looking into a few races at the moment 6 month down the line but will need to pick a few in the medium term. Possible Spring marathon will either be Seville or Rotterdam but leaning towards Seville as it seems there might be a group doing this now.

So come back number 8273 has started now.

    Monday
    40 mins easy

    Tuesday AM
    40 miles easy before work.

    Wed 30th April
Hit the park early before work today which was nice, have been trying to increase the amount of sleep the past few weeks. Still not used to going to bed before 11, but getting out early helps.
Managed 40 mins on grass before having to walk.

As the title of the log says "run run run" this is exactly what I haven't been doing for the last few year. Lack of focus and sick of injuries I've gone from running the odd race to plodding around 3-4 times a week and an annual race over my specialist event.

In the last 36 months I've only run a hadfull of races all been beer miles and that needs to change.(must run at least one race before this years).

I've been jogging for the last couple of months with no real aim or purpose so need to get my S*@t together.

Will start yet another come back log to track how I go, the main aim will be a 5k by the end of the summer but not setting any target for time. At the moment I'd find it hard to go under 30 minutes so there is lots or room for improvement, pb from a few years back is 20:30 ish I think , need to check this.

    Tuesday 12th April
30 minutes lunchtime run in corkagh - handy run but still suffering from Sunday nights beers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 364 ✭✭morceli

    Wednesday 13th April
30 minutes lunchtime run in corkagh -

    Thursday 14th April
Rest / Travel with work so no time to run

    Friday 15th April
30 minutes along the canal in the evening, noting major to report.

    Saturday 16th April .
Dusted off the Garmin for the first time in ages, its amazing how slow I'm running, so its going back in the box for a few week.

    Sunday 17th April.
35 minutes on a hilly route in Wicklow, took it nice and easy and was just mixing it up a little. Didn't fall , didn't collect 40k.

Need to set a target for the summer, and will train to race a 5k by summers end, Would be lucky to run 27/28 minutes at the moment so need to get my finger out.
