kindle critical battery error

    Hi have a kindle 1st generation and havent use it in a while

    The battery is flat and on the screen it has the following message

    'your battery is empty -
    to continue using your kindle connect it to power source -
    it may take a few minutes off charging for your kindle to restart'

    Problem is when i plug it in to recharge it will only recharge for 10 seconds and then the recharging light goes off.

    The plug and adopter is ok as its charging my kindle fire

    Is the kindle fecked or is there away around this to recharge her
